INSTALLING AND REMOVING A MODULE IN THE 6000/6000A

PLATFORM The 6000/6000A Platform must be switched off and, if operating on mains, its supply cable must be unplugged

CHARGING If the instrument is tted with a battery, on connection to the mains: - if the user does not press ON within 20 seconds, the battery will go on to charge. In this case, the Charge indicator will be lit. - if the user presses the ON key, the instrument starts up and the battery will be charged during use. Once the battery is fully charged, the Charge indicator is lit. It is essential to wait until charging is complete to ensure maximum independent operating time, which may otherwise be considerably reduced

Installing a plug-in into a receptacle


1. Slide the plug-in into its slot 2. When the plug-in is fully home, press rmly on the screen-printed face of the plug-in while tightening the clamping screws. The screen-printed face of the plug-in must be ush with that of the receptacle. 3. Make sure that the two large captive screws of the plug-in are screwed fully home

Removing a plug-in from a receptacle


1. Unscrew the 2 captive screws of the plug-in completely (up to the stop). 2. Carefully slide the module out of its slot.

BATTERY MANAGEMENT

1. On/Off Start / Stop the 6000/6000A Platform.

2. Charge and On Indicators Lit in x green when the 6000/6000A Platform is turned on; in blinking green when the 6000/6000A Platform is turned off and connected to mains. 4. File Calls up the le and directory management menu, used to store les, choose a storage media.

3. System: Give access to the conguration menus of the instrument [choice of module(s)] & the conguration menus of the system (date, time). Press SYSTEM SETTINGS to congure the Platform.

Access to the battery


1. Switch off the instrument and disconnect the mains supply. 2. Turn the instrument face down on the work surface. 3. Slacken the captive screws at the bottom of the instrument with a coin & unscrew them. 4. Remove the cover of the battery pack. The battery can then be removed, taking care not to damage the connectors into which it is plugged When putting the battery back into its seating, make sure that its connector engages correctly with the one of the module. Then t the cover back and lock the screws.

Charging the battery


Use only the mains adapter supplied with the 6000/6000A Platform. The adapter for some other electronic device may appear to be identical, but entails a risk of damage to the equipment. CONNECTING THE MAINS ADAPTER 1. At the top of the 6000/6000A Platform , lift up the power supply socket protector and plug in the mains adapter. 2. Connect the adapter to the mains. The On indicator lamp starts blinking.

Due to the reduced dimensions of the optical modules, it is not possible to attach the required warning labels to them. In line with the provisions of Article 5.1 of the EN 60825-1 standard, the laser class identication labels are shown below: Ref. EN 60825-1, Edition 1.2, 2001-08 standard Class 1

When the 6000/6000A Platform screen is exported on a remote PC, via a VNC window, click with the mouse on the upper banner on the PC screen to display a virtual control buttons bar for a few seconds.

Display the conguration or the results of measurements. The display depends on the release software installed. C. FUNCTION KEYS At the right side, rigid function keys (or tactile on option). The keys are different according to the function selected and the release software installed.

The user must take the necessary precautions concerning the optical outputs of the instrument and follow the manufacturers instructions. Measurements on optical bers are difcult to execute and the precision of the results obtained depends largely on the precautions taken by users.

CONFIGURING THE UNIT


When the 6000/6000A Base Unit is to be used for the rst time, or before a measurement campaign is started, the unit parameters must be congured. To call up this conguration menu, press SYSTEM, then the menu key SYSTEM SETUP.

VALIDATING A MEASUREMENT FUNCTION


To congure the unit, proceed as follows: 1. Press the SYSTEM button. The functions available are represented graphically by icons

AC/DC Safety
In conformance with the recommendations of standard EN 61010, the 6000/6000A Platform should be operated within the manufacturers guidelines. Failure to do so may compromise the protection offered by the instruments design. Do not use any mains adaptor or battery other than those supplied with the instrument, or supplied by JDSU as an option for this instrument. - The 6000/6000A Platform uses one Lithium ion (LiIon) rechargeable battery and a lithium coin-cell. This is a long-life battery, and its possible that you will never need to replace it. However, should you need to replace it, refer to your system documentation for instructions. - Do not dispose of the battery/coin-cell along with household waste. Contact your local waste disposal agency for the address of the nearest battery/coin-cell deposit site.

To validate a measurement function


1. Move on to the icon representing the function to be validated using the direction keys (or the mouse or external keyboard if the corresponding option is present). The icon is framed in green 2. Press the validation key . to conrm the selection. .

Switching on the 6000/6000A Platform
1. If the Platform is to be used on mains, rst plug the mains adapters into the Platform. The On indicator blinks in green 2. Press the ON/OFF key, whether the Platform is working on mains or on battery. The On indicator changes from blinking to solid green.

Switching off the 6000/6000A Platform


1. To switch off the Platform, press the ON/OFF key. Wait for the On indicator to blink in green before disconnecting the mains. It is possible to switch over from battery to mains operation, or vice versa, without loss of data.
