The Qualities of a Godly Mother We study to be nurses, doctors, accountants, teachers and many other professions. All these are part-time jobs. The job of a mother is full-time and yet it is a job that women normally do into using trial and error. There are no institutions that prepare young ladies for the job of motherhood. There are not many books on the perspective of parenting except the book authored by the parent of all parents God Himself, the Bible. This is the time when mothers (and in fact both parents) need to get it right when it comes to the rearing of their children. These are the times when the present generation and if there are more to come are in danger of become extinct and have no hope. The more the times become more perilous the more important become the role of mothers in the guidance of their children. So who are the mothers who will be successful in the upbringing of their children in this time? I believe it will be the Godly Mothers. So you may ask: who is a Godly mother? To answer this question I have entitled this message The Qualities of a Godly Mother. 1. A Godly mother recognizes that she does not have children because she is productive but because the Lord has blessed her womb to conceive. I have heard women scoff on others who do not have children and claim that they are productive and can have children. The Godly woman would not do that because she would recognize that children are a gift from God and it is Gods productivity that is working in her and not she in herself. Psalms 127:3 says children are a heritage of the Lord; and the fruit of the womb is his reward. Because she recognizes this she offers her child back to God for protection, for guidance and for direction. We have the example of Hannah who desperately wanted a boy child but when the Lord blessed her with that child she was still willing to give him back to the service of God and so she took him to the High Priest where he was raised in the Temple. That child became one of Israels best prophet Samuel.

2. The Godly Mother ensures that her children are taught in the principles of Gods word. The Bible instructs parents to train up their children in the way of the Lord so that when they are old they will not depart from it. In the book of Joel 1:3 you are advised to tell it to your children and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation She will meditate on the word of God daily and ensure that her children do the same. She will put her hope in the Lord and ensures her children do the same. 3. The Godly Mother will be submissive to their husbands. By doing so she shows that she understand authority. First she would understand the need for her husband to be submissive to God and for her to be submissive to her husband. Ephesians 5:22 says Wives submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord Colossians 3:18 says Wives submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. 1 Peter 3:1 Likely ye wives be in subjection to your own husbands, that if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives. The word conversation here means lifestyle 4. The Godly Mother will watch over the affairs of her household. As she does so she will be a good planner. Thats why the godly mother will know what she is cooking for her children tomorrow for breakfast, lunch and for supper. She is always thinking and is industrious. She develops skills she was never taught so she is able to sew, clean, cook but will never see it as a task but as a duty. 5. A Godly Mother Speaks blessings and positive things on her children She would recognize the fact that death and life are in the power of her tongue and so it will be blessings that will flow from her mouth.

Even the unsaved believes that there is a correlation between the things we say and what happens. Psychologist calls it the sel-fulfilling prophecy They say if you keep saying positive things to children you will get positive results and likewise if you say negative things you get negative results. If the psychologist can use a godly principle then how come the child of God does not know that? So the godly mother will ensure that her words are well chosen. 6. A Godly Mother will always be in communication with God. She will recognize her limitation as a woman and as a parent. She will go to God for counsel on how to deal with problems with her children and her family. She will be praying without ceasing. She will be seeking Gods face to have him bring deliverance, salvation and healing to her family. Even if we dont know exactly how to be good parents God has provided us with some good examples through nature.

Birds When a bird has young ones she leaves them in the nest and goes out to find food. Whatever she finds she will not eats. It is only when the young birds are satisfied that she will eat. How many times have our mothers done the same for us? Children are not even aware that sometimes mothers make tremendous sacrifices for them. They will go to church until that shoe cannot be used anymore or until that dress loses its color but she will ensure that she provides for her children. Hens. You can have a hen that will eat from your hands. You can walk close to them and they feel no threat especially when they become accustomed to them. But that same hen that will eat from your hands, when she has her chicks will attack you in a flash if you get close to them. You will be surprised at how dangerous a hen can be in her effort to defend her young chicks. At night the hens sleep in trees. This is to protect themselves from predators such as manicou and mongoose.

Now, when the hen has chicks they cannot fly up into the tree because they are too young and this is where the mother instincts of the hen kicks in. the hen has a choice to leave its chicken on the ground and sleep in the tree or to sleep on the ground with her young ones. She backs herself into a corner where she cannot be attacked from behind . she spreads her wings and covers her young ones and although the lives of the hen and all her young ones are in danger she put on a spirit of Ester and says if I perish I perish but no manicou or no mongoose will steal my chicken. The Lion The lion is one of the most feared animal in the forest. They attack animals in groups. They have been know to take down even elephants. When a lioness is protecting her young cubs not even the lions can stand up to her. All godly mothers should know that there is someone who is not really a lion but he goes about like a roaring lion seeking whose children he may devour. But when the real lion is inside of you the conquering Lion form the tribe of Judah you will not allow that devil to steal your child. He wants to get them hooked on drugs He wanted them involved in gangs and acts of violence He wants to get them in the hands of the police and be placed in the prison with seasoned criminals. But just like how the hen will not allow the mongoose to take her chicken and the lioness will not allow the lion to kill her cubs so too the Godly woman will arise will defend her children at any cost. Of course she know that the weapons of her warfare are not carnal but they are mighty to the pulling down of stronghold. She will not pull a rifle to defend her children She will not not pull a cutlass but she will use prayers to defeat the enemy. If birds and other animals can teach us proper parenting then learn from them

My own mother gave up on travel opportunities to England because of her children and her decision that she was not going to leave her children with anybody to go away. Mother who decided to die in child birth for the survival of her son Mothers who use their mouth to suck out cold from their childrens nostrils for their survival Today we salute mothers. We love and appreciate them for all they have done. We pray Gods blessings on you but if you are a mother but not a Godly mother there cannot be a better day to dedicate your life to the Lord than on Mothers Day.
