Brake Compounds We highly recommend the Mintex brand brake pads as the first step in increasing the braking performance on the Focus. The A/F series (street compound) pads are simply the best standard replacement pads available at any price; offering low dust, low noise and performance that even surpasses many other brands "high performance" pads. Stepping up to Mintex 1144 is the best choice for cars that will see dual purpose, street/track/auto-x type use. They really shine where repetitive high speed stopping is the norm, but are docile enough for daily use- meaning they won't leave wishing you still has the stock pads on if you need to make a panic stop when the pads are cold. Not many racing type pads can make this claim.
Mintex 1144 is a rally/race compound which is perfectly at home on track, or street, offering a high coefficient of drag (.44) and excellent modulation throughout a very wide temperature range (up to 1200 degrees). Mintex 1144 is unmatched in terms of wear and fade characteristics with excellent "pedal feel". This is the brake compound many European rally teams have used for years. No other brake related upgrade will yield as much "bang for the buck" as upgrading to M1144 pads. Supplied pre-burnished for easy breakin. For maximum effect match with our premium drilled sport rotors and Aeroquip stainless brake lines. Mintex A/F Brake Pads are the highest quality, best performing, standard replacement pads available for the Focus. Mintex brand A/F "Abestos Free" semi-metallic linings operate over a wide temperature range with very little fade or brake dusting. These basic Mintex "street" pads actually outperform other manufacturers "performance" pads (most notably PBR/Axis Metal Master) in a recent national magazine test. Brake Specials
Focus owners are experiencing premature pad wear and rotor warping with as little as 15,000 miles. Ford's answer is, "replacement at your expense." Like the clutch, brakes are wear related items and not covered by vehicle warranty and by the time you pay for parts and labor this can be a $400.00 proposition. We have a better alternative, but lets cover the problem first: The Focus uses a fairly small diameter rotor 258mm and when used aggressively use they generate considerable heat. This combined with less a than stellar choice pad of friction material, equate to poor performance and accelerated wear. "Shake" felt while braking can be a attributed to uneven distribution of pad material on the rotor surface (high and low spots) or the rotor actually being warped - again a materials issue. Our recommendation is to equip the Focus with premium quality brake components that offer better performance, longevity, and at a price that is affordable. For brake pads, we recommend the Mintex asbestos-free semimetallic's; they operate over a wide temperature range with little or no fade or brake dusting. Match these with premium European manufactured EBC rotors (either standard or grooved/dimple) and your Focus will be well on the way to better brakes.

BOLT ON KIT !!!
Many of you already know this and are in the market for larger brakes, only to find there are not many available choices. Up to this point, installing larger front brakes on a Focus has been a difficult proposition. Reason being, the Focus incorporates the caliper mounting directly to the front hub assembly. The current brake kits on the market require removing the front hubs and exchanging them for modified versions, or purchasing SVT Focus hubs. Either way, you have added hundreds of dollars to the price of a kit, not to mention the additional cost/labor involved in servicing the hub/bearing assemblies, reassembling, and realigning the front suspension. We have the answer. Introducing the BAT big brake kit, the first true "bolt-on" front kit for the Ford Focus kit that can be installed without the costly removal of the hub/bearing assemblies. Kits feature larger 300mm Focus SVT type rotors, for increased brake leverage effect (stock is 253mm), lightweight twin piston PBR aluminum calipers (unique inboard piston design fits with a wide range of stock and aftermarket wheels), larger brake pads (increased contact area), Aeroquip braided steel over Teflon brake hoses (reduce spongy pedal feel), and custom machined brackets & hardware. These factors team up to make, not only a visually more impressive brake package, but one that performs dramatically better stock.
Installation Notes
Kits require 16", or larger, wheels- check radius (7.5" from hub center to outermost point on caliper body), even so, some wheel offsets may require a spacer to clear wheel spoke. Modification to stock hub assemblies is required, and will not permit stock brakes to be refitted once conversion is completed. Kit Options
Pads for the PBR caliper (supplied in BAT kit) are the popular (MSFI # D804), for which there are a wide range of possible replacements. As supplied we include standard issue PBR semimetallics, which are quite reasonable performers. For upgrades we offer either Mintex A/F street pads, or Mintex 1144 street/competition pads. Other service related items on rear drum brakes are wheel cylinders and wheel bearings. Wheel bearings will, most likely, need to be replaced with new drums (unless old ones are serviceable and can be successful be removed). Wheel cylinders pistons can seize over time decreasing overall brake performance. Two bore sizes are available. Depending on year, measure piston bore size before ordering. EBC is first on the scene with performance brake pads for the latest 05 Focus cars. Their "Green Stuff" carbon-kevlar pads provide overall better stopping performance while reducing brake dust, a common complaint with C1 platform cars (Focus, Mazda 3, Volvo S40) especially in the rear. We currently offer high performance lightweight forged piston sets for the Focus version of the 2.0L Zetec engine. Available in three compression ratios (8.5:1, 10.0:1 and 12.5:1) in a standard, hone to fit, bore size (3.3470") which is +.005" larger than a standard piston. Our reasoning is at this point most engines are new or have so little mileage on them going with a over bore size does not make sense, although we will offer oversize pistons in the future. Piston sets/kits are supplied with tool steel wrist pins and spiro-locks and a low drag metric (1.2mm, 1.5mm, 3mm) ring pack. Pistons are completely finished machined with valve reliefs. We carry a variety of cam gears for the Zetec engine. Some are sold in sets (pairs), others are individual. In some cases (SVT or ST170), only need one gear for the exhaust cam. Gears can be fitted to the inlet cam, exhaust cam, or both. Suppliers of choice are: MAC, Kent Cams, and Ford Racing. All feature +/- 10 degrees of advance/retard adjustment, for degreeing cam timing, and are hard anodized, (blue or natural aluminum) for long life. Performance Panel Air Filters Free flow, "panel" type, air filters offer better engine breathing, and directly replace the stock filter in the standard air box. We can supply both popular types, oiled cotton gauze (K&N), and multidimensional foam (ITG) material (foam filters have the performance edge in dusty environments). Both types offer low restriction and will not clog as quickly, unlike standard paper elements, and are unaffected by moisture. Over the long term, these filters can be cleaned and re-oiled, thus lasting a lifetime.

Spax, one of Europe's oldest and most respected suspension manufacturers, has released a number of new Focus related items. The Coil over type RSX kits (see next page) have been shipping for over a year now and represent a real performance value in the coil-over market, where similar products sell for over $1000.00. The current production Spax RSX kits have no association with the previous, and admittedly troublesome, versions Spax supplied for some Honda and VW applications. Spax has been under new ownership for the last five years, and we see them putting considerable effort into engineered all their products for maximum performance and reliability. The Focus suspension market has become a cluttered and confusing place. With so many new brands in the market place it is hard to make an educated decision. Why not opt for one of the original names in performance dampers? Spax has over 40 years in the industry. With a list of industry firsts (externally adjustable valving for one), we certainly view them on par with Koni and Bilstein. Spax have two sport strut/shock applications designed to fit the Focus with either standard, or lowering springs. Their "V" series gas units offer a combination of performance valving (nonadjustable), shortened rod length (allows for use with lower springs), and a very affordable price. Over the years, we have put hundreds of sets of "V" struts in service and have found them to be extremely reliable, as well as good performers. Spax is the originator of the externally adjustable shock and their "TA" externally adjustable gas units have performance valving (14 way top adjustable), shortened rod length (allows for use with lower springs) and a price that is more reasonable than Koni and other similar products. Struts and shocks priced and sold each, fronts fit all models, rears fit wagon where noted.

Although GAZ is a relatively new brand name, they are in no way new to the shock/damper industry, having manufactured components for other well known brands for years. As of 2000, GAZ have stepped out from behind the scenes with their own line of motorsports oriented suspension products. In January, we had the chance to meet the GAZ team at the Birmingham Racing Car show and were very impressed with their line of Focus products, signing up as a dealer on the spot. GAZ offers features that are unheard of at their price point. All GAZ shocks are adjustable- fronts 24 position (top adjust) for rebound, rears 34 position (lower side adjust) 70% rebound / 30% bump. Strut rods are shortened (for use with lower ride height springs) and are increased diameter with induction hardened chrome finish. Double lip seals on piston/rod assures longevity. Strut exterior casings and other exposed parts are zinc plated to minimize corrosion. On assembly, all dampers are individually serial numbered, inspected, then "dyno" tested (with performance graph supplied). GAZ products are all manufactured to ISO 9002 specification, and are TUV approved with a 3 year warranty. If you are looking for high end quality and performance at a sensible price, look no further than GAZ.

Adjustable Front Camber/Caster Kit There is only limited adjustment for alignment (toe only) on the Focus. Incorrect alignment specifications cause accelerated tire wear, and less than desirable handling characteristics. Lowering a vehicle beyond recommended ride height, setting up a car for competition use, adjusting for left/right variation, and correcting collision damage, are all valid reasons for needing adjustable camber/caster. We offer these handy kits which utilize an offset eccentric top mount and plate for precise camber and caster adjustment. Once installed, adjustment is made (with the weight off the suspension) by simply inserting a 3/8" rachet, and extension, into the top plate and turning. Caster and camber relation will be determined by the location of the strut shaft, and is infinitely adjustable within a range. Depending on position, it is possible to change camber (only), caster (only), or a combination of camber, and caster. Kits are sold each- one required per side. It is possible to use only one side, especially when correcting for tolerance issues, or collision damage. Sold each, one kit per side.

Adjustable Rear Camber Kit There is no rear alignment adjustment on the Focus. Incorrect alignment specifications cause accelerated tire wear, and less than desirable handling characteristics. Lowering a vehicle beyond recommended ride height, setting up a car for competition use, adjusting for left/right variation, and correcting collision damage, are all valid reasons for needing adjustable camber. European Focus Grilles
A unique look for the American specification Focus is to fit the European center and lower front grilles. European Ford grills have a interesting, honeycomb shaped, pattern that enhances the front end styling. It is a subtle, but very noticeable, change. Installation is fairly easy, however, the upper center grille does away with the turn signal indicators and they will need to be relocated elsewhere. An option would be fitting 2002 > Euro headlamps, which include turn signals (see lighting section), or fit a European front bumper that has provisions for turn lamps. Grilles are supplied in black and can be painted if desired. Center grille includes Ford emblem. Aero Fuel Cap Kit
This is the real thing, a true aviation fuel cap kit specialy designed for the Focus. Aero type flush fitting caps draw inspiration from fuel filler caps used on American WWII fighter aircraft. Popular with motorcycle manufacturers for many years, Ducati and others have incorporated these caps in their fuel tank designs. After being seen on the Ferrari F40, automotive concept and prototype car stylists quickly caught on to the idea. These caps now grace the flanks of the worlds leading exotics and supercars including the Mclaren F1 and Jaguar XJ200. The design and finish of the cap are such that it is not always the appearance that attracts. The mechanism has a very pleasing feel with a precise action, as it should if incorporated on cars costing upward of a million dollars! The forged aluminum cap sits in a pressed aluminum flange sealed with a fuel resistant o-ring. Cap and flange are supplied in a natural satin aluminum finish. Fitting a Aero cap has never been an easy or inexpensive task until now. Our new custom Aero Cap Installation Kits make fitting a snap. Replacement Bulbs
We carry a range of replacement bulbs for the Focus headlamp H4 (high/low beam) and 880/893/899 (fog) lamps. Bulbs are available in higher wattages and with more efficient gasses- for increased light output per watt. For bulbs with output over 80 watts a 12 volt relay should be added to avoid overloading the standard switch or wiring.

Focus 2002 European Head Lamp Kits Not only are they stylish, but the 2002 Focus European lamps are the perfect choice for use with European front grilles as they incorporate turn signals right in the head lamp. With dual reflector design and halogen H7 low and H1 high beam, Euro lamps offer enhanced light output over the standard units. In our opinion, these are the most attractive head lamps available for the Focus (at any price) and the quality is unmatched as they are original equipment Ford. These lights have been trickling into the US market with other importers since early 2002, however most do not supply all the components required for installation. We decided not to get involved until we could sell a complete headlamp kit: including; lamps with bulbs (H7, H1, city & turn), bulb sockets for the turn lamps, rear access bulb covers, plug/wiring harness and instructions. Some minor wire splicing is required for installation, otherwise lamps are a direct bolt-in.

Order desk hours are Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Whenever possible orders received before 12:00 noon will be processed and shipped the same day. You may place an order by telephone, fax, or by mail. Ordering by telephone will connect you to a technical-sales advisor who will help with any questions, or make ordering recommendations, if you require. Knowing your 6 digit BAT customer number, catalog part numbers, quantities, and description of order items will help minimize any possible errors in processing your order. Telephone orders may be placed during business hours as listed above. Fax orders may be placed anytime day or night.
Shipping
Unless otherwise stated all orders will be shipped by United Parcel Service (UPS) surface system. Actuall UPS rates are charged based on package weight , zone (distance traveled from source) and insured value. We do NOT charge additional "handling" fees. We can also offer express (overnight, 2 day or 3 day) service if required, check with us for details and additional charges. Items too large or heavy for UPS service will be shipped common carrier (truck) freight collect. Optional shipping services include Surface Mail, Air Mail, and Air Freight at current rates. Freight charges on return items are not refunded.
Back Orders
We dislike back orders as much as you do, and although we carry a huge inventory of merchandise it is inevitable that we will sometimes run out of certain items. In this case we will hold the order open and ship the back ordered item directly when the item becomes available. We NEVER charge for back order items until they actually ship. If an item looks like it will be on back order for longer than 4 weeks we will try and let you know the approximate time of delivery. You will then have the opportunity to reconfirm or cancel your order.
Special Orders
Some items that we offer are available as special orders. This includes custom variations on catalog items and race prepared parts. All special order items require a 50% deposit at the time the order is placed with the balance due at time of shipping. You will be advised at the time of your order if any item falls into this category.
Returns
All returns must be authorized by BAT with in 30 days of the invoice date and must be sent prepaid. Returns must have an authorized RGA number and be accompanied by a copy of the original invoice. A restocking charge of 20% may be assessed at our discretion depending on the reason for the return. Certain parts such as bearings, books, electrical items and piston rings or any part that has been modified or installed in any way are not returnable. Return items totaling less than $20.00 can be returned for store credit only.
