    Category Setting

    4 Many vivid, descriptive words are used to tell when and where the story took place. Several action verbs where used to describe what is happening in the story. The story seems exciting! The story is very well organized. One idea or scene follows another in a logical sequence with clear transitions. Tone is clearly present in the words the writer uses to create mood in at least two areas of the writing. The main characters are named and clearly described in text as well as pictures. Most readers could describe the characters accurately. There are no spelling or punctuation errors in the final draft.

    3 Some vivid, descriptive words are used to tell the audience when and where the story is. Several action verbs are used to describe what is happening in the story, but the word choice doesnt make the story as exciting as it could be. The story is pretty well organized. One idea or scene may seem out of place. Clear transitions are used. Tone is clearly present and mood is created at least one area in the writing. The main characters are named and described. Most readers would have some idea of what the characters looked like. There is one spelling or punctuation error in the final draft.

    2 The reader can figure out when and where the story took place, but the author didnt supply much detail. A variety of verbs are used and describe the action accurately but not in very exciting way.
