King of Retail

KB was born 9th august 1961 . He was the second son of Shri

Laxmi Narayan Biyani and Smt Godavari Biyani in Mumbai. He grew up with 12 cousins and siblings and went to Manav Mandir high school. He did his graduation from HR college in Mumbai

As a child he was average in studies. He loved playing

cricket and watching movies. He was always a rebel in his family questioning every social and religious norm. At college he rarely attended classes. He never enjoyed working in his family business.

He

organized a successful dandia night in his locality. This is were he showed his first sparkle of entrepreneurial talent. KB started his entrepreneurial career by selling stone wash fabric. He managed to sell lakhs of worth of fabric. This is were he made his first profit.

He first launched brand of fabric named wbb (white, blue

and brown).The brand enjoyed a short success. He then launched Pantaloon a retail venture dealing in mens wear. He then eshtablished a small fancy-yarn plant by the name of Dhruv Synthetic in partenership of Sushil Sain,Krishna Jhujunwala each contributing 3 lakhs.

At the same time took the distributorship of

denims made by Arvind Mills. Menz wears private limited was incorporated in 1987.its name was later changed to Pantaloon. First franchise of Pantaloon opened in Goa in 1991 by the name of Pantaloon shoppe. At its height there were 72 franchises across countries. Pantaloon went public in 1992 to raise 225 lakhs.

KBs foray into retail: First Pantaloon retail outlet opened in Garihat kolkata in 1997. It stocked apparel for men and women, stationery ,sports goods, gifts toys and household items. Although KB wasnt the pioneer in organized retail but his vision ,creativity and entrepreneurial talent steered him through his competitors.

bazaar so that no customer gets intimidated by the surrounding. Big bazaar are consciously designed to look crowded. Each big bazaar is different keeping in mind the test of indian customers. All the future group retail outlets are merchandise driven rather than being operation driven. Expenditure on advertisement and brand building.

the World This made his barriers a little easy, He had the consumers in hand, he just needed to get in the right way to drive the customers to his outlets. 2] Capital Availability. Good Credit rating led the Biyani, to receive a good amount of capital and support form the Market.

India was on the move of revolution, when he entered in this business, people not only welcomed him, but led him to lead the retail business
