is above 6 kph. Draw a suitable wind rose diagram. Determine the best orientation
of runway. If the maximum deviation of wind from the direction of landing and
take-off is permitted up to 33.75 0C , determine the percentage of time in a year
during which the runway can be used for flights. [16]

1. (a) Briefly outline the highway development in India?


(b) What are the various requirements of an ideal highway alignment. Discuss
briefly. [6+10]

2. (a) Discuss the factors affecting friction between pavements and types of vehicles?
(b) A valley curve is formed by a descending gradient of 1 in 40 which meets an
ascending gradient of 1 in 30.
i. Design the total length of valley curve if the design speed is 100 Kmph so
as to fulfil both comfort condition and head light sight distance for night
driving, after calculating the SSD required.
ii. Find the position of the lowest point of the valley curve to locate a culvert?
