Roman Army wore
under the Metal
armor?

The Romans wore a red tunic war under their metal jacket. The tunic was
made out of rough wool. It was made so that the metal jacket wouldnt
bother them during war.

Roman Soldiers carried a sword (gladius) that was use to stab during war,
sandals (caligae) which w
ere designed to help the Romans march for long
distances
, a belt (cingulum) to scare the enemies away as they marched, and
a javelin that was used for throwing from far away distances.

The belt protected the lower body. They were kept in place by heavy
weights. It also helped them scare away their enemies.

It was made of many layers of thick wood wrapped in leather with an iron rim
at the top and bottom. They also helped the Romans by making a form called
the tortoise which helped them.

The roman commanders got extra protection by these metal leg protectors
called greaves.

They also brought equipment pack held personal items and 3 day's food
rations. They may have also carried things like a cloak and a leather bottle

The commanders had feathers on top of their helmets so that every Roman
soldier can see who was commanding and who to respect.

Wars happened because each place wanted their own land or wanted to take
over the other place.

Rome changed from the war they fought because it affected them to thrive
and it helped him feel powerful because they conquered the island of Sicily.
They didnt only take over sicily,Rome took over Carthage,and Italy.Now
Rome feel a lot more powerfull.

The war affected them to thrive because every time they fought they had
to gather resources to survive the war. Which caused them to struggle
because if they didnt have enough resources it will be difficult to Survive

Who was in the


Roman army?

All of the three places that was in the roman army was
Carthage,Italy,and Sicily.

What armour and


weapons did the
Romans have?

A Roman soldier wore armour made from strips of iron and


leather (lorica segmentata in Latin). On his head was a metal
helmet (galea). He carried a rectangular shield (scutum),
curved so it protected his body. The shield was made of
wood and leather.

How well-trained
were Roman
soldiers?

Roman soldiers kept fit by running, marching and


practice-fighting. They could march 20 miles (30 km) a day
wearing armour. They could swim or cross rivers in boats,
build bridges, and smash their way into
forts
. Each man
carried his weapons and shield, some food and camping
equipment (such as spare clothes, cooking pot and an axe or
spade).

What is a legion?

There is thirty legions in Rome. What is a legion you ask. A


legion is a group or unit from men up to 3,000 or 6,000
Roman Soldiers.

What other soldiers


did the roman have?

Legionaries were the best Roman soldiers, and the best paid.
Some soldiers had special skills. They shot bows and arrows,
flung stones from slingshots, or could swim rivers to surprise
an enemy like modern commandos.

Where was the first punic


war fought at?

The Punic Wars were fought between Rome and Carthage from 264 BC to
146 BC. Carthage was a large City located on the coast of North
Africa.The first punic war was fought largely over the island of Sicily. This
meant a lot of the fighting was at sea where Carthage had the advantage of
a much stronger navy than Rome.

No,
Carthage had more success fighting against the Roman legions. The
Carthage leader and general, Hannibal, made a daring crossing of the Alps
to attack Rome and northern Italy.

third punic war

In the Third Punic War Rome attacked the city of Carthage. After three
years of laying siege to the city, the Roman army broke through the walls
and burned it to the ground.

Rome wanted to conquer the island of sicily and italy and they also burned

This war started when 78 gladiators, including their leader Spartacus,


escaped and started a rebellion. Soon they had over 120,000 escaped slaves
