STATION #1 Think about the society we live in (you can think about your school, town, state, country)

1. What are the benefits of living in this society? (What do you get from living here?) 2. What are the problems with our society?

STATION #2
Imagine a perfect community. What would it look like? What would it be like to live there?
Some things to think about
Who lives there? Can anyone live there? What rules are there? Where do people live? What kind of jobs do people do? How does money work? Are some people rich and some poor or is it shared? How does the community pay for things? What does a typical day look like? Who is in charge? How is it decided?

STATION #3 Think about times in history when society changed. For example, African American people were once slaves and women did not have the right to vote. 1. Do you think its possible for society change? 2. What does it take to change society? 3. What kind of people can make a change? Can teenagers?

STATION #4
Think back to the film of The Lottery that we watched before the break. Read your WOW entry to refresh your memory! 1. Read your WOW entries to each other. OR 2. Pick one of the questions you jotted down about the film and discuss it as a group. OR 3. As a group, discuss and answer: What is the author of The Lottery trying to say about people?

STATION #5: CLEANING OUT ENVELOPES


Follow these directions carefully: 1. Find your envelope and take out the papers that are in it. 2. Place each short story into the bin labeled with its title. 3. Tape the yellow proofreaders marks sheet into the back of your notebook (behind your vocabulary section). 4. Put all other sheets into the recycle basket. (You can tape them into your notebook if you want to keep them). 5. Place your EMPTY envelope in the envelope bin.
