Introduction
One UI's first release was in 2018, and in 2024, Samsung will introduce the seventh major One UI upgrade. One UI 7.0 will accompany the Android 15 update for eligible Galaxy smartphones and tablets and will make its way to users sometime in early 2025.
One UI 7.0 features
Every new One UI version adds features and improvements that are separate from those included in the core Android operating system. One UI 7.0 will be no different. However, it will be one of the biggest upgrades One UI has received in a long time.
The user interface is getting a major refresh with One UI 7.0, as revealed by several leaks and rumors and our hands-on experience with the actual software running on a Galaxy S24 Ultra. Everything from app icons to the quick toggles menu will look different on One UI 7.0.
Samsung is making it easier to access buttons, menus, and controls in various stock apps when a device is used one-handed. The camera app, for example, now has all of the primary controls placed at the bottom of the screen. The app drawer, meanwhile, has its search bar relocated to the bottom.
All of these changes are part of Samsung's plans to make One UI 7.0 simple, impactful, and emotive. According to one leak, One UI 7.0 will bring the following features and improvements:
- New system application icons
- New background interface
- A new control area at the bottom of the lock screen
- Adjustment of shortcut icons (size?) in the left and right corners of the lock screen
- Pull-down shortcut bar and notification can be independent/merged
- The pill-shaped UI element in the upper left corner notification bar can display more apps
- Added interruptible animation and optimized app opening and closing animation curve
- New battery icon and charging animation bar
- New camera user interface
- Added support for 5G SMS messages
- New notification pop-up animations and closing animations
- Added unlock animation
- New button touch and page return animation
- Added many new desktop widgets of various sizes
- Added more lock screen widgets
- Added large folders
One UI 7.0 compatible devices
Dozens of Galaxy smartphones will be eligible for the One UI 7.0 (Android 15) update. Almost every device that launched running Android 13 is guaranteed to get it. So are flagship and select mid-range devices that launched in or after 2021 and are eligible for four generations of OS upgrades.
Samsung will eventually reveal an official list of compatible devices, but you can check out an unofficial list based on previous One UI releases here.
One UI 7.0 release
As One UI 7.0 is a major upgrade, Samsung will introduce the official version with the Galaxy S25 lineup in 2025. So, for existing devices, One UI 7.0 will be released sometime in the first quarter next year.
Sometime later this year, Samsung is expected to launch a beta program allowing users to test One UI 7.0 ahead of its official release.
