Introduction
Samsung never made an Ultra-branded smartwatch before, until 2024 that is, when it unveiled the Galaxy Watch Ultra. We've had Classic and Pro models before, but never an Ultra, but it was about time as Samsung now consolidates its top-of-the-line products under the “Ultra” banner.
As you'd expect, the Galaxy Watch Ultra has much to offer over and above the new Galaxy Watch 7 that was unveiled alongside it. As one would expect, the top-of-the-line model has a price tag to match.
Design
The Galaxy Watch Ultra's design is a blend of various design elements that we've seen on Samsung smartwatches over the years. It fuses the conventional circular watch face that we know and love on Galaxy Watches with a square housing, creating a unique cushion design that makes this device look great on the write.
It's a big one as well, available in just one 47mm size, so it's definitely more suited to those who live to wear chunky watches. Samsung has also fashioned the Galaxy Watch Ultra out of Grade 4 Titanium, which underscores its durability.
Specifications
The Galaxy Watch Ultra features a 1.5-inch 480 x 480 Super AMOLED display that Samsung claims is the brightest display that it has ever put on a smartwatch, reaching an impressive peak brightness of 3,000nits.
Powering the device is Samsung's new Exynos W1000 5-core 3nm chip, which the company claims provides 3x faster CPU performance while also being 30% more power efficient. This, coupled with the chunky 590mAh battery, should provide multi-day battery life on a single charge with ease.
The company's latest BioActive sensor is also on board which provides enhanced health and fitness tracking, in addition to predictive tracking of some of the most sensitive metrics that this watch is capable of tracking.
Software and Features
The Galaxy Watch 6 is powered by Wear OS and One UI 6. There are familiar elements here as One UI delivers a standardized experience across device. The company has added some new features, aside from improving major health and fitness tracking features, Sleep Coaching, Fall Detection, and more.
Price and Availability
The Galaxy Watch Ultra was unveiled at the Paris Unpacked event on July 10, with the device being released on July 24, starting at $649.99.
