After a brief hiatus and a one-time special on Prime Video last fall, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is officially returning to the airwaves.
The company has announced an October 15 airdate for this year’s fashion show, with Grammy winner Tyla set as the musical headliner. The singer will join Tyra Banks, Gigi Hadid, Paloma Elsesser and a host of other top models as they strut their stuff in the latest Victoria’s Secret fashions, as well as custom pieces designed specifically for the show.
Victoria’s Secret says they chose Tyla for her “vibrant personality” and “innovative take on pop and R&B,” hailing the afrobeats star as an “integral” part of the “entertainment, glamour and fashion” of this year’s show. While other performers are still to be announced, Victoria’s Secret confirms that this year’s musical lineup will be an all-female affair for the very first time.
“Growing up, I was captivated by the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show – the stunning outfits, iconic wings, and charismatic models,” Tyla says in a release. “Now, I’m thrilled to be performing on this nostalgic and legendary stage. What’s even more exciting is the celebration of diversity, showcasing a broader range of beauty, which makes this moment truly special.”
The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show had previously aired on CBS, though a broadcaster for this year’s edition has yet to be announced. The October event will mark the return of the glitzy spectacle, which was cancelled in 2019 amid declining ratings and changing perceptions of the brand’s marketing tactics and positioning. In a statement, Victoria’s Secret says this year’s show will bring back the “glamour, wings, fashion and musical entertainment our customers know and love – with our values and brand mission of today at the forefront.”
Indeed, while the intimates brand was once known for their barely-there lingerie, recent years have seen the arrival of everything from sneakers and handbags, to full collections of chic dresses and gowns.
The brand first announced the return of the show in an Instagram video last month, which featured Banks handing out an official VS invite to Hadid. The clip was set to the tune of Chappell Roan’s “Femininomenon,” though it’s not clear if Roan will have any involvement with the actual show. Expect more models and performers to be announced in the coming weeks.
