Marc Anthony Celebrates Salsa’s Legacy at the 2024 Latin Grammys
¡Arriba la salsa! Marc Anthony just hit the stage to perform a special salsa medley, celebrating both the legacy of the iconic genre and the 25th anniversary of the Latin Grammys.
The Nuyorican icon participated in the vibrant performance, which included giants in the genre like Oscar D’León, Tito Nieves, and Grupo Niche. Rising stars Luis Figueroa and Christian Alicea also participatede. Two generations collided when Nieves and Alicia belted out “De Mí Enamórate” live together. Later, the music transitioned to Grupo Niche firing up a performance of “Una Aventura.” Figueroa kept the high-energy going with “Tú Me Vuelves Loco.” D’León then commanded the stage while singing “Llorarás,” which had Karol G moving in the audience. Anthony joined in the performance with a stirring rendition of “Vivir Lo Nuestro” alongside La India.
Earlier this week, he told Variety that the segment, which he executive-produced, would be a “celebration of the salsa genre, the artists, and the songs that have shaped our lives..”
“I am very happy to be able to share this vision with the fans,” he added. “The journey continues!” Sergio George served as the musical director of the all-star performance.
Anthony is nominated for two Latin Grammys this year, including for Best Salsa Album for Muevense, and Best Short Form Music Video for “Ale Ale.” He previously won awards in 2005 with Valió la Pena, in 2008 with El Cantante, in 2014 with 3.0, and in 2002 with Pa’llá Voy.
Anthony last performed at the awards show in 2022, when he joined Sergio George and Motiff for “Mala.” That year, he also took home the Best Tropical Song award for that song.
Along with Marc Anthony, Thursday’s telecast is scheduled to see performances from Becky G, Carín León, Grupo Frontera, Joe Jonas, Pitbull, Emilia, Residente, Luis Fonsi, and Kali Uchis. This year’s Latin Grammys air live from the Kaseya Center in Miami on Univision and Vix.
