Our mission

At Renaissance our mission is, “To accelerate learning for all children and adults of all ability levels and ethnic and social backgrounds, worldwide.” Inherent in a mission that strives to serve all children and adults is the need to recognize the importance of diversity, inclusion, and belonging in our culture, in our work, and in our products. That is why we are committed to accelerate learning for all by building a Renaissance for all.

Strategy

At Renaissance, our commitment to diversity and inclusion is built around three pillars: Equitable Talent Practices, Inclusive Culture, and Equity in Education. Renaissance’s Inclusion Council—a group of employees who represent different identities, locations, job levels, and functions from across the company—is helping to shape and implement that strategy.

Action

We have created a fully organized culture that involves people throughout the organization and is embedded within the very structure of Renaissance. Renaissance proudly:

  • Supports and gives resources to six different Employee Resource Groups (see below).
  • Partners with vendors like Textio and Fairygodboss to increase our ability to attract and source candidates from underrepresented backgrounds.
  • Requires all candidates to complete a skills-based and structured interview process to help remove bias in the selection process.
  • Provides training to all employees on topics such as managing unconscious bias, leading inclusively, addressing microaggressions, and practicing allyship. Training is also a part of the onboarding process for new hires.
  • Tracks and communicates the results of our annual inclusion survey as well as internal data on representation and turnover to assess how best to focus our efforts.

Employee Resource Groups

Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are voluntary, employee-led groups made up of individuals who join together based on common interests, backgrounds or demographic factors such as gender, race or ethnicity. Our ERGs are sponsored by a member of the senior leadership team, and are given the resources needed to build community and impact change at Renaissance.

Renaissance Black Employee Network

The Renaissance Black Employee Network advances Renaissance’s commitment to promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace. The group’s mission is to promote the representation, inclusion, advancement, and overall work experience of Black Renaissance employees.

Workin’ Moms of Renaissance

The mission of Workin’ Moms of Renaissance is to support working moms with the overlap of their personal and professional lives. The ERG is a network for working moms to share experiences and support each other as they balance both their career and their role of being a mom. The ERG serves as a resource for employees and their allies by providing educational opportunities, mentorship supports, and social events, along with advocating for improvements at Renaissance.

Growing and Including Neurodiversity

The mission of the GAIN Employee Resource Group is to provide a private, inclusive, and supportive community for neurodiverse employees and their allies. The group advocates for neurodiverse individuals at Renaissance.

The Alliance for Mental Wellness

The mission of the Alliance for Mental Wellness is to advocate, educate, and provide support for mental wellness at Renaissance. This ERG is a safe, confidential space where employees can be allies, provide or seek assistance, and share resources or stories for enabling mental wellness in their lives at work, at home, and in their communities. The group aims to help develop a culture of mental wellness that will be beneficial to employees who may be experiencing mental health problems or who have co-workers or loved ones experiencing problems with mental health.

RAICES

The mission of RAICES is to Respectfully Amplify the Impact of our Culture to Empower and Succeed in promoting mutual understanding and leadership. RAICES is meant to be a space to promote and support cultural diversity and the professional development of its members. The group’s goal is to fulfill a piece of the bigger picture of accelerating learning for all by creating a supportive environment for Latino/a/x employees, as well as to positively impact our customers who serve students of similar cultural backgrounds.

The Renbow Alliance

The mission of the Renbow Alliance is to build a community of LGBTQ+ employees and allies to create and maintain a safe, inclusive space that empowers everyone to bring their authentic selves to the workplace. The Renbow Alliance seeks to accelerate opportunity for employees of all orientations and genders by building community, facilitating retention and development of LGBTQ+ employees, advocating for LGBTQ+ inclusive content, and developing policies and practices that positively impact LGBTQ+ employees at Renaissance.

Future

While we have come a long way, there is still plenty of work to do. A true commitment to creating an inclusive workplace requires ongoing evaluation, accountability, and action woven into every corner of our company culture.

In the meantime, our company values can help guide each of us. Our organization Strives for the Best—knowing that by building diverse teams, we Win Together and become more innovative and collaborative than ever before. We also believe that doing what is right and communicating openly with one another—to Trust Each Other—is foundational to supporting inclusion at Renaissance and across the communities we serve. We also recognize that we come to these conversations with different lived experiences and there will no doubt be some growing pains, and perhaps even conflict. By assuming good intent while focusing on impact, we Own Our Actions, and as we learn to navigate these topics and conversations—we Grow and Evolve—together.
