2024 TVS Jupiter 110 First Ride Review

It's been over a decade since the TVS Jupiter 110 was first launched in India. And the year 2024 marks the year that the best-selling scooter from TVS has finally undergone a substantial amount change. This can in face be considered a generational change because there is an all new engine, a different chassis and of course different design and features as well. Now, we'd been called out to the TVS test track facility in Hosur to ride the scooter a couple of days before the launch. So although we don't exactly have the pricing of the scooter just yet, I'm going to walk you through what's new with this new generation model.

The Jupiter 110 is a really big deal for TVS, because to put it simply, this is pretty much the bread and butter scooter model for the company. The Jupiter scooter series is the highest selling brand in the manufacturer's scooter portfolio, managing to outshine models like the Scooty Pep+, the Zest 110 and surprisingly even the Ntorq 125 range in terms of units sold. So much so that, if say the Ntorqs are selling at a rate of 30,000 units a month, the Jupiter scooters are doing double of that in the same timeframe. That's how much in demand they are in India. Even though these sales numbers include both the Jupiter 110cc and 125cc models combined. It still is impressive feat nonetheless.

All right, so starting off with the design of the scooter now, this is the top spec variant of the 110 Jupiter which comes with this peculiar colour scheme as well. It's very refreshing in terms of design with a more modern take on the family oriented scooter. It's not overly sporty, but it does have a nice futuristic look to it, primarily thanks to that long DRL running along its front apron. Now, the turn indicators have been integrated into the front apron as well, like before, but you don't have those, bird eyes-looking turn indicators like on the older scooter.

Now you get 12-inch wheels at both ends. Telescopic front end suspension, single mono shock at the rear, LED lighting at both ends too. Really neat looking. This top spec variant which gets the connected tech is identifiable visually, buy its disc brake up front. Now, coming to the back of the scooter you will notice the long LED running across the rear of the scooter with the turn indicators and integrated here as well.

This top spec variant also comes with the hazard light switch, which has been integrated quite neatly into the turn indicator buttons out here as well. All you have to do is long press this and it functions as a hazard light switch.

Lower-spec variant

Now, as you can see with this particular model, also in the lower trims that both TVS have done away with the chrome finish bit on the scooter and have opted for a rather classier looking piano black finish all throughout the scooter. Now this is available on the lower models as well.

So that's a really neat thing. Also, when you come to the screen. You will notice the neat, reverse LCD unit. They call it the color screen. But there are just some colored elements on the now. This screen houses a decent amount of information like speed, time and trips. And of course, you do have real time, running efficiency to let you keep track of your riding on the go. And it does have speed warning alert as well. When you go an indicated 80kmph, it gives you this high speed warning on the screen to in an effort to make you stick within speed limits, and its got eco and power indicators that light up according to your throttle inputs.

Lower-spec variant

Coming to the engine. Now, this is the new 113.3cc single cylinder FI engine. There's quite a bit of tech thrown in there as well. So it has ISS, which is the intelligent start stop system, where basically your scooter goes off if you stop at a signal, pull over for around three seconds, it will go off automatically, it wring the throttle, and then it'll ignite and start and you can be on your way. Then there have been other integrated technologies with this particular motor. Like, you have this small boost feature which, whose tech works more or less on the lines of the Yamaha Z where the you get a slight boost in torque when the battery is all charged up. Max power of this motor is around 8PS with around 9.2 NM of torque. But then, when you see that little indication on the dashboard that reads 'power assist ready', your max torque is bumped up to around 9.8Nm of torque with that assist from the electrical motor. So that is pretty neat as well. Now, in terms of braking, yes, you do get this combined braking system.

In terms of power and agility, well, the scooter primarily is not supposed to be an overly sporty scooter, but this new chassis has changed the dynamics of the scooter for the better, because it now feel very light and very nimble.

In terms of performance. Well, the scooter does quite well for a 110cc scooter. You have it smooth all throughout, from the moment you start off all the way up to 60kmph. But, it does feel a little reluctant to cross that 80kmph threshold. Then again, that is not what the scooter is ideally designed to do (high speeds), if you happen to manage to get up to around 80kmph, the scooter still feels very nice and planted on the road thanks to the chassis. And it is lighter, than before and a lot more nimble.

You do get a nice amount of shove on the go even from 20 to 40, to even around 60kmph. It's all butter-smooth all throughout and very comfortable. And that's always been one of the highlights of the Jupiter which is great to see carried over from the older model. It's something that people, who buy the scooter will be looking for - that comfort factor, and that fact that you now have added agility thrown in there is a real plus point.

Now, in terms of features, well, this top spec variant comes with whatever TVS could possibly throw into the scooter at is given price tag. Now this one comes with Smart Connect technology which includes Bluetooth connectivity, call alerts, all that kind of thing. You also have turn by turn navigation prompts. And of course, you do have the start stop technology, which is constant through the lot of trim variants. You do have some safety tech thrown in there as well in the form of auto cancellation turn indicators, you have the hazard light switch integrated into the turn indicator buttons. And also once you need to come to a halt quick or suddenly brake hard out on the road, the people behind get an indication that you have done so because your hazard lights come on automatically, and they switch off as soon as you release the brakes.

On the dash, you do get stuff like average fuel economy, which is great. It tells you if you're being if you're riding efficient, you also have problems on your phone. Once you're actually connected to the app, it tells you how you've been riding over the course of time, certain time period. You have eco and power modes. So if you want to ride economically, because when you see that eco light flashing and gives you, it gives you some reassurance that you are riding kind of efficiently. And it's really nice to see that even on the 110cc scooter if you are riding at around 60kmph, and you're quite relaxed on the throttle. You still see that eco light flashing, which is quite reassuring to see. So now how efficient are those actually out in road? Well, we'll save our judgment for a different day because, well, this is a controlled environment. We have to figure it out, out on the road how it actually performs. So do look out for a proper road test when that comes out to.

And yes, in terms of seating and everything, things appear to be very comfortable and thoughtfully executed with a decent amount of foot space as well. The riding posture you'll assume on the Jupiter 110 is upright and fairly simple. Everything is within reach, with enough space for you to move about. And of course the main point of the scooter has to be the convenience factor. So you have a nice glovebox out in front.

Now, some really commendable things about the new Jupiter 110. One is the fact that, in terms of design, the fit and finish is really nice for most part. There are some ill-fitting bits, like over here you can see some a little bit of panel gaps, but then again, the overall fit and finish of the scooter is very neatly, executed because even the level of paint work is phenomenal.

It feels of good quality. Even the plastic feels really good. And, as you can see, over the full over most of the body panels, you won't get to see a single screw or bolt, except for the lower part of this mid-section where you can see a couple of screws out here and on the footboard, but even on the dash, nothing to be seen. Which is very neat indeed.

Another really cool thing about the Jupiter 110 is that it has reduced in weight compared to the older model. This one that weighs the 105kg, but it's got a lot of fiber parts unlike the metal panels of the older scooter. And I love the way this scooter is balanced thanks with the new chassis. It just makes things also easy to manage on the go. Even if you have to lug it about on foot, move it around in your parking lot, or even put it on center stand for matter of fact.

At the time of filming this review, none of the prices of the new Jupiter 110 variants have been announced to us so there's no confirmation from us on that account. But we expect the pricing of the scooter to match that of the now older generation Jupiter 110s that're sold out here currently â€" which is in the vicinity of Rs 74,000 â€" Rs 91,000. There will be just four of the new trim variants to be sold as of now as opposed to the six of the older gen, with the one we've checked out today being the most expensive. One thing's for sure, it will have to undercut the Jupiter 125 which is currently lies in the Rs 79,000 - 91,000 ex-showroom price bracket. Otherwise it won't make sense.

In terms of design, ride quality, handling and features, the new Jupiter 110 has certainly upped its game, which simply comes across as good news to the wanting consumers. I think that the TVS definitely has enough in its arsenal to finally dethrone the Honda Activa off its perch in this segment.
