Ocean and Coast - Strategic research area
NTNU Ocean and coast
Preserve, develop, and restore oceans, coasts, and waters
Strategic research area 2024–2031
NTNU is a leading player in oceans, coasts, and waterways, with a focus on research, education, collaboration with industry, and sustainable development.
We are developing new technologies that support the green transition, including renewable energy such as offshore wind power, low-emission oil and gas extraction, and sustainable aquaculture.
Through close cooperation with industry, including the development of autonomous underwater vehicles with low environmental impact, we contribute to practical solutions for the marine sector. We are also working towards the sustainable utilization of ocean resources, including reducing the environmental impact of the aquaculture industry.
By bringing together expertise across technology, natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences, NTNU develops innovative solutions to complex societal challenges. Through groundbreaking research and education, we are shaping the future for oceans, coastal areas, and waterways. In doing so, we contribute to preserving, developing, and restoring oceans and waterways in Norway and the Arctic.
