Marc Shaffer, Director and Writer
Veteran filmmaker Marc Shaffer became enchanted with Eadweard Muybridge while directing American Jerusalem: Jews and the Making of San Francisco (PBS, 2014), which used many Muybridge photographs. Shaffer’s more than two dozen documentaries have been seen by viewers in the U.S. and around the globe on PBS, National Geographic, Al Jazeera, in theaters, and online. Shaffer’s work has been recognized with three national Emmy nominations, seven Cine Golden Eagle Awards, a Cine Special Jury Award, the Society of Professional Journalists’ Sigma Delta Chi Award and many other honors.
Elisabeth Haviland James, Editor
Elisabeth Haviland James is an award-winning film editor, producer and director. James produced and edited the Emmy nominated feature documentary Althea, (PBS American Masters) and Emmy and Peabody winning The Loving Story (HBO). James was lead editor for the PBS Series, A Craftsman’s Legacy. She co-directed and edited the documentary feature Overland, which premiered at the 2019 Santa Barbara International Film Festival. A graduate of the M.A. Program in Documentary Film and Video at Stanford University, James has taught documentary filmmaking at Duke University’s Center for Documentary Studies and as an artist in residence at the Oklahoma Arts Institute.
Serginho Roosblad, Producer
Serginho Roosblad is an Emmy Award winning filmmaker and video producer for the AP. His films have been featured in film festivals around the world and on San Francisco PBS station KQED . Originally from Amsterdam, Roosblad holds a Master’s degree in Journalism from UC Berkeley, where he was the Marlon T. Riggs fellow in documentary filmmaking and a Dean’s Merit Fellow; a Master’s degree in African Studies from the University of Cape Town; and a Bachelor’s of Journalism degree from the Hogeschool Utrecht in the Netherlands.
Drew Takahashi, Art Director
Drew Takahashi is presently the Emperor of Funjacket Enterprises. Takahashi previously collaborated with Marc Shaffer as animator on American Jerusalem. Previously he was co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of (Colossal) Pictures. Using any and all techniques in film and video, Takahashi directed or creative directed broadcast identities (MTV, Showtime, Disney Channel, Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon), commercials (Coca-Cola, Intel, Nike, Honda, and Levi’s), music videos (Bobby McFerrin, Prince, Joe Cocker, and Kronos Quartet), and interfaces (Apple, Americast, WebTV, and Microsoft). At Funjacket Enterprises, he provides an array of services, including naming and identities, corporate communications, web experiences, and animation for documentary films.
Chad Cannon, Music Composer
Award-winning composer Chad Cannon draws inspiration from cultures, history, and human stories to create moving scores for documentaries, animation and live performances. Cannon’s documentary scores include the Academy Award winning American Factory, which garnered him a Cinema Eye Honors nomination for Outstanding Score; Paper Lanterns, nominated for an International Film Music Critics Award; Cairo Declaration, co-composed with Xiaogang Ye, which received China’s highest film prize, the Golden Rooster Award for Best Music; and the PBS documentary CyberWork and the American Dream. Cannon has collaborated with several of the world’s leading film composers, including Studio Ghibli’s Joe Hisaishi, Conrad Pope, Alexandre Desplat and Howard Shore.
Tim Macmillan, Technical Consultant
Tim Macmillan is a modern master of multi-camera array photography, the motion capture technique pioneered by Eadweard Muybridge. Macmillan’s specially created Time-Slice® cameras from the 1980’s and 1990’s are in the UK Science museum collection, and his artworks are in the UK National Archive. Macmillan is founder of Time-Slice Films, co-founder and chief product officer of the camera design firm Area4Pro, and is an advisor to the board of Dimension Studio. He previously served as Senior Manager of Advanced Products at GoPro. Macmillan holds more than 20 US patents and is member of the Visual Effects Society, SMPTE and IEEE.
Nion McEvoy and Leslie Berriman,
Executive Producers
Nion McEvoy is the chairman and CEO of publishing giant the McEvoy Group, while his partner Leslie Berriman is executive editor at textbook publisher Pearson Education. Their philanthropic work focuses on art, film, photography, and music, including the Smithsonian, SFMoMA, and SFJAZZ. They have executive produced many major documentary features including Won’t You Be My Neighbor?, Chasing Coral, Always in Season, Raise Hell: The Life & Times of Molly Ivins, Pray Away, Spaceship Earth, and The Kingmaker.
