I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! bosses gave Coleen Rooney a secret codename that was inspired by Wagatha Christie.
The WAG, 38, was given the hilarious nickname in 2019, when she accused Rebekah Vardy of leaking stories about Coleen after she launched a ‘sting’ operation to catch the culprit on Instagram. Rebekah then launched legal action against Coleen in 2022, accusing her of libel, but she lost and was ordered to pay the mother-of-four more than £3million in legal costs.
It was revealed by The Sun that each celebrity was given a codename to keep their identities secret ahead of the show’s premiere on Sunday, and Coleen’s was inspired by her infamous sting operation that exposed Rebekah. She was given the name ‘Marple’, after the iconic sleuth Miss Marple, who was created by Agatha Christie. “They come up with a codename for all the contestants, and sometimes it’s something to do with that particular person. The choice for Coleen was apt and it would take someone with her detective skills to work it out,” a source told the outlet.
Loose Women panellist and journalist Jane Moore, 62, was given the codename ‘Moon’, while Barry McGuigan, 63, was ‘Cyclones’ which was inspired by his boxing career, as he was known as The Clones Cyclone. And McFly singer Danny Jones, 38, had the nickname ‘Rocket’. Coleen was determined to put the Wagatha drama behind her, and before entering the jungle, she said she had put the saga firmly in the past.
“That’s a place that I’ve been, I’ve dealt with it. In my life now, I’m just moving forward and not looking back. That’s something I’ve done my whole life, dealt with things, moved forward at the time and got on. There are more important things to think about with the family and kids,” she insisted.
Coleen said she had signed up to the show “for me and not for anyone else”, but said she struggled leaving her four kids - Kai, 15, Klay, 11, Kit, eight, and Cass, six - who she shares with husband Wayne Rooney. “I think I’d rather just be known as Coleen from Liverpool. Not from any other type of place. It’s just me, as I always have been. So hopefully people just think she’s that Scouser that she’s always been.”
In a post on Instagram before she flew to Australia, the WAG said she had planned out “four weeks of timetables, football runs and parties, just everything” to ensure her children are looked after while she stays in the jungle. Showing two huge whiteboards that were filled front and back, she confessed to her fans that she was “really anxious about leaving the kids”.
