The festive season, while enjoyable, can leave you with a mountain of extra housework - especially if you have guests over for the celebrations.

A woman who was left with a heap of glasses to wash after Christmas Day last year has shared her top tip for preventing cloudiness and ensuring her glasses always sparkle again. On TikTok, where she is known as @purdyandfigg, the cleaning guru demonstrated her favourite 'sparkling glass cleaning hack', which she discovered after noticing that her glasses were constantly getting smudged.

In her 'boxing day clean' video, the clever TikToker showed her followers her cloudy glasses, commenting on the sheer number of glasses to clean after Christmas Day. She revealed her trusted hack, advising followers to put their dirty wine glasses in the dishwasher, adding a cup of white vinegar and a crumpled ball of tinfoil to the cycle.

Despite this seeming odd to some, the home hacks influencer encouraged her curious followers to 'trust the process'. The video then cut to the end of the dishwasher cycle, showing the glasses inside sparkling like diamonds and completely free of smudges.

One person was left stunned by the tip, saying: "Wow!", and another fan nodded in approval with: "Great idea." Other followers pitched in their own suggestions, as one recommended using 'half a cut lemon' while another suggested a sprinkle of citric acid.

Discussing this tinfoil technique with Homes and Gardens, Brittany Kline from The Savvy Kitchen elaborated: "The aluminium will help to remove any build-up on your flatware and leave it looking like new. Plus, it's a great way to eliminate any water spots that may have formed."
