It’s no secret that cleaning light fittings and fixtures can be a somewhat arduous task, taking what-feels-like-hours to clean all the nooks and crannies, which is why it’s a task that many of us opt to put off.
While you might assume that cleaning all the light fittings in your home will take hours to do, there’s a hack that turns this task into a total cinch. What’s great about this cleaning tip is that you don’t even need a cloth to do it - it’s that simple.
So, what’s the hack and why does it work so well? Cleaning expert Amanda Thomas has taken to Better Homes & Gardens to share her light fitting hack - and honestly, it’s a complete game-changer.
Amanda explains that instead of attempting to clean fittings with a cloth and requiring a lot of elbow grease, you can opt to put your light fittings in your dishwasher instead. According to the cleaning expert, most light fittings and fixtures are actually dishwasher-safe and can be put in your dishwasher to be cleaned.
In order to test out this smart light fitting cleaning hack all you need to do is remove your light fittings from where they’re sitting in your home, check that they are dishwasher safe - information you should be able to find on the manufacturer’s website - and then place them in your dishwasher. Ideally, you want to put your dishwasher on a short, gentle cycle, using a mild detergent.
Once the dishwasher cycle has finished, you can remove the light fittings from the dishwasher, wipe them over with a microfiber cloth to remove any leftover water. The only downside to this cleaning hack is that you will need to leave your light fittings down overnight, to ensure that they’re fully dry before reattaching them to your light fixtures.
