European seas, particularly the Baltic Sea, North Sea, and Mediterranean, are home to a significant number of dumped explosive and chemical munitions from World War I and II, as well as the Cold War era. Two new projects have just been launched to enhance knowledge, capability and capacity to mitigate the threats from dumped munitions to Europe’s seas. The projects are: 💣 MMinE-SwEEPER project (Marine Munition in Europe - Solutions with Economic and Ecological Profits for Efficient Remediation), funded under #HorizonEU and managed by European Research Executive Agency (REA). 💣 MUNI-RISK project (Risk assessment of sea-dumped munitions in the Baltic Sea) funded under the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (#EU #EMFAF) and managed by CINEA. The two projects will collaborate on sharing information and best practices to take efforts to deal with marine munitions in Europe to a next level. Exploring Truth & Impact A Conversation That Resonates Beyond Journalism Recently, the Megalizzi-Niedzielski prize finalists and winners gathered to discuss their work on impactful storytelling across Europe. These young journalists’ dedication to portraying the truth of local communities while highlighting the European Union’s initiatives is inspiring. Their approach offers valuable lessons for us all—not just in media, but in all fields. What can we learn? 💡 Transparency Builds Trust: Whether designing spaces or reporting news, transparency in our work connects us with our audience and strengthens credibility. 💡 Stories Over Statistics: Facts matter, but so does storytelling. Narratives rooted in real people’s lives make information memorable and impactful. 💡 Community-Centric Approach: The EU’s initiatives become meaningful when they resonate with citizens’ daily lives, just as impactful interior spaces prioritize clients’ true needs. Looking to the future, the three passionate winners envision themselves as champions of ethical journalism, dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices and promoting the truth. They aim to foster dialogue on complex topics like climate change, migration, and social justice, creating a media landscape where informed citizens drive positive change. Their vision is ambitious and deeply needed—a commitment to upholding integrity and trust in journalism as they forge connections between communities and policy, helping shape a better Europe for all. A huge congratulations to this year’s winners for their hard work and passion! Their mission of bringing truth to light in today’s world is one we can all support and learn from. Can we make impact-driven work the standard, not the exception? Read more: https://lnkd.in/enmKadrJ #Youth4Regions #journalism

🗻 Building a Smarter Future for Alpine Regions Rural and mountain areas often face depopulation and economic stagnation due to a lack of digital infrastructure. The SmartCommUnity project, led by the University of Ljubljana and co-financed 🇪🇺 by the EU (Interreg Alpine Space 2021-2027), is set to reverse this trend by bringing innovative digital solutions to Alpine communities, making them more attractive for both living and working. Through close collaboration with the European Strategy for the Alpine Region (EUSALP), the project aims to build the capacity of Alpine areas, providing them with the digital tools and 👩🏫 skills they need for a smart transition. These tools will help local communities develop sustainable and resilient solutions, with an emphasis on community involvement and sustainability, aligning with the 🌱 New European Bauhaus initiative. SmartCommUnity pioneers innovative solutions, such as gamification and civic tech, to foster local engagement and 🙋♂️networking. By showcasing the success of these efforts, the project hopes to inspire other Alpine areas to adopt a smarter, greener approach and encourage policymakers at all levels to embrace the vision of a forward-looking Alpine community. #NewEuropeanBauhaus #EUinMyRegion #Interreg 📷 ©️ SmartCommUnity, 2024.
