The "triple threat" caused by population growth, climate change, and economic downturns has exacerbated food insecurity in many countries on the African continent. This has motivated the need for locally sourced and resilient solutions. One of these solutions has been the Black Soldier Fly (BSF), which, over the past few years, has grown in popularity due to its potential as an alternative and sustainable protein source for animal feed production, organic fertilizer, and a solution for waste management. Explore our team's analysis of how Black Soldier Flies can improve waste management and protein production across Africa: https://lnkd.in/gvj9cBKp

What lessons can we learn from successful collaboration between donor agencies and development finance institutions (DFIs) – and how can we apply them to future partnerships? These are the key questions we explore in the latest publication in our Foundations of Growth series. The report presents 10 case studies of effective collaboration, identifying key success factors and showcasing the results that can be achieved through working more closely together. Guided by these findings, it provides targeted recommendations for donor programmes and DFIs to enhance collaboration. These are grouped into three categories: ➡️ Aligning strategies and creating incentives for collaboration ➡️ Building capacity and awareness on both sides ➡️ Adopting compatible operational models and tools that meet the needs of businesses in frontier markets You can read the publication here: https://lnkd.in/efqeScaY Thank you to Justin van Rhyn, British International Investment, FMO - Dutch entrepreneurial development bank and Gatsby Africa for writing and supporting this publication. While Indigenous Peoples make up just 6% of the global population, they manage or hold tenure rights to nearly half of all protected areas. Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities are also on the front lines of climate change, stewarding at least 25% of all tropical and sub-tropical above-ground carbon. These groups have some of the strongest track records of managing land for the mutual benefit of people and nature. But despite proven track records, they often struggle to access the finance needed to scale their impact. In our latest CrossBoundary Quarterly, Managing Director & Head of Natural Capital, Kate Wharton explores why local partners are the essential "ship captains" of nature-based solutions - and how we work in partnership with local teams to raise the capital they need to scale their businesses.
