The innovative design of Intuit Dome has been featured in ARCHITECT Magazine’s article, “6 Ways AECOM Is Upping Its Game With Their Design of the New LA Clippers Arena.” The piece highlights the arena’s sustainable architecture, merging advanced technology and fan experience to create one of the most eco-friendly sports venues worldwide. The arena’s design incorporates 100% outdoor air for ventilation, a grid shell with ETFE, PTFE, and laminated PTFE panels and seismic isolation to absorb earthquake energy. Its glowing exterior, enhanced by color-changing LEDs, adds dynamic visual appeal while the shape, inspired by a basketball net, mirrors the fluid motion of the sport. These elements work together to reduce energy consumption, improve air quality, optimize airflow, shading and temperature regulation. Our lead designer, ross wimer, emphasized the goal of blurring the lines between indoors and outdoors to create a more open, less confined space than traditional hermetic sports arenas. In celebration of Nature and Biodiversity Day at #cop29 today, here’s an insightful look into our #landscape design for the extension of Taolin Park in Shanghai, Mainland China. #AECOM Executive Director, Landscape in Asia Lee Parks dives into the design process and the impactful solutions we've integrated into this urban space. From nature-based play areas to advanced stormwater management, Taolin Park is an exemplary model of how thoughtful design can improve biodiversity while addressing the practical challenges of urban living. This park features stepping stones across a retention pond, inviting children to explore the ecosystem and discover the life underneath the water. However, the true nature of the design centers on grading, drainage, and earthworks to create practical stormwater management systems. Through strategic grading, drainage, and earthworks, we’ve created an effective sponge city approach. This solution not only helps reduce pressure on Shanghai’s municipal drainage system but also supports groundwater replenishment and protects the city from flooding. Watch now.
