Work to Live
This really struck me, because it couldn't be more true. Up until 3 years ago, I spent 40+ weeks a year away from home. Away from my family, and away from everything else that creates a full and balanced life.
I was good at my job. I wasn't good at recognizing the toll it was taking on me and what it was taking from me. I was exhausted and running on momentum. I was sick and getting sicker. I was lonely and sad and carried that around like subconscious luggage. I had missed milestones in my family's lives.
My life today is unrecognizable compared to what it was. It actually took me months to physically recover and to even figure out how to have a life that wasn't completely consumed by work.
I have been off ALL meds for rheumatoid arthritis for almost a year. I sleep better, I think better, I love better. I work, because I'm a driven person and always will be. But, work is one of many facets of this wonderful life that I'm building. And, I'm so passionate about what I'm doing that frankly, it doesn't feel like work at all.
Be careful, friends. If you love what you do, then congratulations! But, even still, don't let what you do become all you do, like I did. And, if you don't love it, then get the hell out. Trust me. This life simply flies by. You can't get it back, but you can make today and every day after very different. It's in your hands.
