The Winners of 2023
For those that managed to great a break in, we hope it was revitalising and has filled the tank so you are ready for what will surely be an opportunity rich year ahead!
This time of year is always a great time to reflect on the last twelve months. We work closely with business leaders to drive performance in their workplaces and these are some of the trends that we believe drove strong outcomes in 2023:
Workplaces that walked the talk when it came to making real changes. The key? understanding how change impacts your team at an individual level and managing the conversations accordingly. https://hbr.org/2022/04/change-is-hard-heres-how-to-make-it-less-painful
Strong leaders who made a difference through combining empathy with decisiveness. They were the catalysts for their teams, offering guidance and a clear vision especially in the face of adversity.
Teams that excelled had a clear 'North Star'. This strong sense of purpose and direction guided decisions, actions, and sustained motivation throughout the year.
The often overused term ‘resilience’ is here to stay, like it or not. ‘We all step in sh*t from time to time, the art is in how you scrape it off your shoe’. Success isn't about avoiding setbacks but about how effectively and creatively we overcome them.
We know that the strength of a high-performing team lies in the capabilities and contributions of its individuals. So, what common themes have we seen from these top-performing individuals?
They step out of there comfort zone regularly. ‘you don’t need to jump off a cliff but you do need to get closer to the edge’. Learning is optimised when we get things right 85% of the time.
They do not wait for perfect circumstances. Instead, they take action with about 70% of the information they ideally want, understanding that timely action often trumps waiting for complete certainty.
They minimise digital distractions which is key to staying focused.
They play the long game. In the ever-changing landscape of business, where there are no fixed endpoints and rules are fluid, they focus on long-term strategies. They are prepared to adapt and innovate, and uncomfortable as it may feel at the time, are prepared to reinvent themselves.
So who will be the 2024 winners and will the recipe be any different? We don’t think so. What we do know is that lack of clarity and accountability are two of the main reasons that goals aren’t achieved. Teleport yourself to January 2025 and ask:
What will I have done throughout the year to knock my goals out of the park?
What are the milestones that I need to achieve on a monthly, weekly and daily basis?
Wishing you all a wonderful 2024 and whether it’s through leadership coaching/training, strategic planning support, landing your next great career move, or getting your people performing to the best of their ability, the team at No8HR are look forward to supporting you to be 2024 champions!
