What I’ve Learned Since Getting Serious About LinkedIn in 2020
I opened my LinkedIn account on July 6th, 2007. Back then, it was just a profile—a digital placeholder that I didn’t use much.
For years, I let LinkedIn sit there, thinking it was just for job seekers. I had yet to learn what I was missing.
That changed in 2020 when I met Judi Fox on LinkedIn and took her 10-week program for LinkedIn lessons.
She completely opened my eyes to the potential of this platform. I finally understood that LinkedIn wasn’t just a networking tool but a place where real opportunities, connections, and growth could happen.
Since then, I’ve consistently shown up, shared my voice, and learned everything I can about how LinkedIn works.
Along the way, I’ve discovered 12 powerful lessons that changed how I approach this platform—and my career:
Relationships are the foundation of everything.
Make friends in your industry and with prospects.
The rules don’t exist. Break them anyway.
Be yourself. Post what feels right to you, not what others expect.
Don’t send robotic DMs to prospects.
Authenticity wins every time.
Talk to people like they’re people.
Put some personality in your writing.
You’re not just building a network—you’re building a brand.
Focus on your strengths and skills.
Share what you’re great at and let your audience see the value you bring.
Hiding yourself doesn’t help.
LinkedIn lesson
You’re missing out on opportunities to connect if you’re not visible. Engage with people you like. And don’t be afraid to block or unfollow the ones who don’t align with your values.
Comment like you mean it. Honest conversations spark the best connections.
Brag about your results. Celebrate your wins!
Your achievements inspire others to aim higher. Format your posts well.
Clear, readable content is more likely to get noticed and shared. Share your story often.
It’s yours alone—no one can take it from you. Experiment and adapt.
The algorithm changes, your audience evolves, and so should you. Conversations grow businesses.
Followers grow brands, but conversations grow businesses. It’s not about profile views, likes, or comments alone—it’s about how those actions lead to meaningful conversations.
Here’s how it works: The number of conversations you start is determined by the number of profile views, comments, followers, and likes. And conversations are where the magic happens.
Use them to invite someone to your offer document or share an invitation to your live event, podcast, or workshop. Solve a tangible problem they care about and offer to continue working with you.
This formula is simple: Conversations + Invitations = Conversions. That’s what this entire game is about.
Since 2020, My network grew—in numbers and meaningful, valuable connections.
I’ve had conversations that led to new opportunities, collaborations, and growth. I’ve gained clarity about my voice and purpose on LinkedIn.
The best part? I’ve taken what I’ve learned and created my program to help others get started.
Introducing: The Pulse of LinkedIn
If you’re stuck, unsure how to use LinkedIn, or overwhelmed by where to start, The Pulse of LinkedIn is for you.
This program will get you up and running with the basics—so you can show up consistently, connect confidently, and start seeing results.
P.S. Are we connected yet? If not, let’s fix that; I’d love to follow your journey.
Let’s stay connected!
