What I'm striving for in 2021
I am not one to set a resolution when the calendar ticks over to January, but given what a clusterf*ck the last year was I felt it important to better prepare myself for the marathon of a year ahead. In order to navigate through 2021, I will be practicing self-compassion and resilience.
Why Self-compassion
We all have that inner voice, the one that's there to protect us from dangers both real and imaginary. My inner voice can be a vicious critic, who's more worried about a little embarrassment than actual pain. My inner voice is one that is quick to anger and criticizes every little error and misstep. In an effort to become mentally stronger and less self-defeating I will be working towards being more compassionate with myself. Forgiving my mistakes rather than replaying them in my head over and over. In the short time that I've been practicing self-compassion, I have noticed how often I think negatively of myself.
Why Resilience
2020 was, undoubtedly, the year of resilience. But 2021 is set to be the sequel. Whereas last year I experienced the burnout of constantly having to recalibrate for every obstacle that was presented. I hope that taking a more mindful approach to resiliency will give me the capacity to deftly navigate the challenges this year is sure to bring.
I don't know where this year will take us but my hope is that by bringing more positivity and patience into my inner sanctum, then I will be able to weather whatever 2021 has in store.
