WHAT AILS ACHIEVERS FROM ACHIEVING MORE?

Scaling up business is tough, scaling up one own’s potential and belief is even tougher.

In my journey as a Founders’ Coach, I have come across various such examples – where people – despite achieving better than most of their peers, seem to get stuck at some point. They either get too comfortable with their existing zone or get afraid to learn and do what is required to move to their next stage of success. In either cases, they just stop believing or half-heartedly believe in what more could they achieve, and thus, in a way, cheating on the very purpose that they had been working for.

What could be some plausible reasons for this? And what could be some tips to move out of this phase? These are a few things that I will try to explore through this article:

1.      The Fear Becomes Larger than the Goal: No achiever has had it coming easy for him. But while their initial enthusiasm helped them to cross over early challenges and find success – a mere realization that they still require to keep scaling themselves and that the journey won’t be easier, can put lots of strong hearts on hold and wanting to claw back. The fear of failure may become even more pronounced. And the way out: keep moving, keep taking each day as it comes, focus on consistency and the momentum, and do not get overwhelmed by that large audacious goal that you may have set for yourself.

2.      There is still time: There couldn’t be a larger fallacy than this. While most of us can find ourselves trapped here, we shouldn’t forget that time is a rare and fungible resource. The option of filling our time with worries and self-doubt vis-à-vis taking small actionable steps to move closer to our larger purposes – the choice is always ours.

3.      Lack of clear direction: Most of us may end up losing the clarity of direction which we should be taking and be stuck with multiple choices – thus leading to inaction instead. Catch hold of a mentor, or a Coach, or a peer from your network and discuss with them and they may help you find some better clarity of thoughts to move forward.

4.      Peer Pressure: The proliferation of social media has instilled a FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) and intense competition to so catch up with the Joneses. And sometimes, when we compare our journey with our peers, it may leave us either encouraged or discouraged. Once again, the choice is ours. Each one of us has our own journeys – and our focus should be on keeping improving ourselves, rather than overthinking what the other person has achieved.

What are your thoughts on this subject? Have you, or any of your close friends, going through this phase? What were your observations and what tips had you shared with them? Please do share your learnings and observations in the comments section.

Till then, keep building your own paths!
