Welcome to my weekly ABC's...

Hi there one and all, wishing you the very best for the day.

Welcome to my weekly ABC's, posted every Tuesday morning, whereby I will share three things, all of which are quick to read and easy to put into action.

A = Affirmation

This is not the end of the world, start again tomorrow.

I LOVE this affirmation; we all make mistakes, have a rubbish day or don't meet that self-imposed deadline. All of these that can make you feel that everything was done that day is a failure. To remedy this, wind down, have a good dinner, drink plenty of water and then have a great nights sleep. Try to not worry about things overnight, and you should wake the next morning with a better view of the world and what's possible.

Affirmations are a great way to start training your mind towards a positive way of thinking. Combined with other positive thinking exercises, a decisive affirmation will help you overcome any obstacle that's in front of you.

The future you will say thanks, keep going!

B = Business Thoughts

You're more productive NOT working in an open-plan office.

It’s never been easier for workers to collaborate. Open, flexible, activity-based spaces have displaced cubicles, making people more visible. Instant messaging is replacing phone calls, which makes people more accessible. Enterprise platforms such as Slack and Microsoft Teams are displacing coffee chats, making people more online connected. Virtual-meeting tools such as Zoom, GoToMeeting and Webex are substituting in-person meetings, making people ever-present.

With the current #COVID-19 restrictions around the world, we are all very much used to the video calls, and maybe some are looking forward to going back to the open-planned office; however, that's not where you will do your best work.

When in an open-plan office, you are always, subconsciously listening for your name, project or area of responsibility to come up in a conversation, which will distract you and take your attention from what you are doing. Trying to get back into the "swing" or what many call "task switch" takes more energy and focus than just staying on the task at hand. These are just one of the many base arguments against and open-plan office; it only works for the VP or Seniors (with the glass offices around the edge of the space), so they can oversee the workers, it's very Orwellian 1984 when you think about it.

Now that so many have tasted the sweet nectar of #WFH, we can only expect this to continue. This is great, but at all costs, try and avoid, when the timing is right, spending all your time back in the energy-sucking, open-planned office. Manage your deep-work when and where you are not going to be distracted, work from home (WFH) or even a coffee shop when possible. Once the trust and your self-discipline are there, it's a winning formula for high quality and even higher productivity.

C = Coaching Thoughts

Anyone can Coach, but not everyone can be a Coach.
