Video's most critical pivot
Video, as we knew it, has vanished. With the increase in Zoom, Google Meet, etc. video will never be the same. People are used to seeing pretty good versions of colleagues or customers over Zoom. Gone are the days of pixelated versions of ourselves on camera. Broadcasters, have been using some sort of video conference for their show for nearly a year and the programs sound great and look nearly as good. Technology has caught up to videos. My 12-year-old son makes videos with green-screen technology that look better than some professional videos I've seen. Years ago you could post a video that was blurry or sounded muffled at times. Those days are over. Technology makes creating video easy.
It's not enough to just show your product or explain how your service works anymore. Kids are doing those types of videos on TikTok. Just because nearly 85% of people on the internet watch videos , doesn't mean that any old video will do. Since the technology has increased, so has the quality expectations.
Ok. So you hired a video crew to shoot your new product. That's great. I'm sure you paid a nice price to have them come out and work on lighting most of the day. But with all that shooting, could they show you what's going on inside your product when everything is working, or could they zoom in on the fabrics that are used to make your scarf or could they pull a part the layers of that new thermos to show the premium materials being used? Will they animate your logo or add special effects that make the video standout? They probably won’t do any of these things, because they shot it like my son does for TikTok videos.
Video used to be talking heads, product shots and once in a while green screens. Now it can highlight what makes your product or service special, while showing what it does and how it does it--on screen. Peel back the layers of your product and see just how great video can be in 2021.
