UberEats: The next Unicorn that everyone underestimates
Foodora, Favour, DoorDash, Just Eats — food delivery is an over-crowded market with many players. But Uber’s secret weapon to cut through this competitive market is something they haven’t exploited yet. Ratings.
Uber offers a cheaper & more reliable food delivery service than its competitors. Features like ‘follow-along’ allow you to see your driver on-route, which provides a sense of assurance. And although other services may have ‘lower’ delivery fees, the expectation is that you tip your driver which makes their cost higher.
UberEats recently started asking users to rate individual meals. There are many ratings and review services (like Zomato/Yelp) that review restaurants but you never know what in that restaurant is good or bad.
Given that Uber is playing a volume game to lower costs and get efficiencies, they will soon have the largest private database of local meal ratings. And like we go to Amazon to check the ratings of a product before we buy it, we’ll default to Uber for food.
The next Unicorn will come from a unicorn we already love.
