Carbon is now generating its own currencies in the form of tokens which are traded globally.
Carbon Tokenization Currency
Tokens represent a particular asset or utility. Within the context of blockchain technology, tokenization is the process of converting something of value into a digital token that's usable on a blockchain application.
Each unit of carbon currency (CC) will represent 1 ton of CO2e mitigated for a 100-year duration, and may be classified as a “representative currency”.
Crypto Carbon Space
Toco is the world’s first currency that captures carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. It’s money as tonnes of carbon, stored in a digital wallet.
Tocos can also be held as a store of value in your unique digital wallet: carbon credits are valuable assets traded in international markets. The value of toco is tied to real-world value of these carbon mitigation assets.
The AAVA Climate Performance ecosystem leverages blockchain and the DAO framework to implement a robust, secure and accessible pathway for Token holders to take part in high performing climate markets.

The carbon currency is the economic instrument of the Global Carbon Reward (GCR) policy. The main function of the currency is to deliver public and private finance at a scale that can address the ambition of the Paris Climate Agreement—and to do so without imposing any direct costs on citizens, businesses or governments. The carbon currency is a new type of ‘Representative Money’ because it represents carbon that has been mitigated. This is comparable to a gold exchange standard monetary system in which the standard economic unit of account is based on a fixed quantity of gold stored.
Nature Based Climate Solutions
In nature based climate solutions trees can be grown to draw down CO2 and the forest waste materials from that activity can produce biochar. These activities become emissions reduction currency systems.
Biochar Important Soil Amendment
Biochar is playing a pivotal role in the U.S. Remediation efforts for marginal soils.
In order to return marginal land to conservation status, there needs to be an investment in soil remediation to facilitate regrowth and carbon absorption. This is done through the Soil Carbon Amendment program.
This USDA program is a permanent part of the CRP and EQIP funding to land
conservators for 2023 Fiscal Year and onwards.
In order to fund these new conservation mandates, the US Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 provided an additional $19.5 billion over five years to support USDA’s conservation programs that yield climate-change mitigation benefits.
NRCS Biochar Funding for US Producers
The Conservation Practice Standard Soil Carbon Amendment (336) is used by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to help agricultural producers (farmers, ranchers, and forestland owners) improve soil health and store carbon by providing financial assistance to offset the costs of biochar and/or compost amendment to soil. Carbon credits put a price on carbon to incentivize investments and innovations in technology and behavior that helps us reduce our global emissions.
Forests are being used to reduce net global emissions, which also reflect the types of projects that provide forest carbon credits.
We at BioEconomy Solutions are creating carbon credits with our CO2 drawdown forest projects & biochar projects. These activities produce carbon credits & the carbon currency.
