A few months ago, I jumped on a call with a “Top Creator” from Linkedin because he wanted to have a coffee chat and finally connect since we had been supporting each other's content for a while.
And what happened during the call, I did not expect.
You see:
He had managed to grow his following well over 20K followers in a rather short period of time.
And even though he built himself a highly engaged following, he was wondering what his next steps should be to be able to help his audience more…
And even make a fair amount of scratch for himself, too.
So I went on to tell him the best way to monetize an online audience:
Start an email list.
And he had the typical reaction most people have.
Which is:
Isn’t email old hat?
Does email even work as well as it used to?
Don’t people just see emails as spam?
Do people even take the time to read your emails?
Well, this is where I went on to tell him how email has THE HIGHEST ROI of any online marketing medium there is right now, with a whopping $42:1.
And how you should be able to expect at least $1 every month from each subscriber you have.
So if you have 2000 subscribers, you should be able to expect to easily “bolt on” an extra $2K in your online business.

And that’s when I dropped my price.

He wasn’t making any money in his business yet, and could not afford for me to help him out.
YIKES!

This guy teaches business strategy on LinkedIn.
I’m sorry. But you really can’t make this $h!t up.
The same person who teaches how to run a business on LinkedIn doesn’t even have a real business.
Now, I’m not going to go on and talk about the moral implications of doing such a thing…
Or even mention how you should be careful of who you listen to here.
… because I personally think you should already know that.

Starting an email list, if you already have a business that’s already making money…
Is the best move you’ll ever make as an online business owner.
And that’s because you’ll have a direct line to your audience… without having to ever worry about an algorithm again.
