Transcript of my speech at the launch of Kotak Wealth Hurun Leading Wealthy Woman 2020 Report

Good afternoon friends, today's theme is about showcasing wealth creation stories of women leaders who will play a critical role in nation-building. The entrants in this year's Kotak Wealth Hurun India Leading Wealthy Women List can be broadly categorized into 2. The first category is custodians of legacy wealth and the second is the new wealth creators. And women from both categories play a really important role in nation-building.

According to 2020 statistics by World Bank on the labor force, in India, only around 24% of women are in the labor force. Just to give you a comparative analysis, in China, it is 60%. For India to progress, it is important that this gender disparity is reduced. According to research by Kaufman Fellows, a startup that has at least 1 woman co-founder hires 6x more women than otherwise.

Thus Empirically, it is evident that women-led companies result in more employment for women. And when Indian women, which is 50% of India's population, move forward, their employment cuts across race, religion any other societal barriers. Thus, For India to be a developed nation, the impact of women-led wealth creation is no longer a good to have but an absolute necessity.

This list has been special and truly close to my heart as we at Hurun India has been trying to figure out how we could objectively benchmark and recognize the success stories of women entrepreneurs. Over the last 2 years, we have been trying to finalize the research methodology, to independently and objectively identify these leading women wealth creators. We started with understanding the role of women-led wealth creation in nation-building and culminated with this list of the top 100 women wealth creators. We are really pleased to have partnered with Kotak Wealth, which is coincidentally led by a team of women, with a very rich experience in inter-generational wealth transfer and management.

Before I conclude I would like to point out that the list has three main objectives

1) To celebrate the success stories of the entrants

2) inspire more women into entrepreneurship

3) to highlight these stories to the government, which would hopefully result in more support programs for women entrepreneurship.

Based on Kotak Wealth Hurun Leading Wealthy Women List 2020, I am very excited to understand that the story of women wealth creation in India has just begun. Once again, thank you for joining us today and I look forward to answering your questions. Thanks.

The business leaders in India both men and women should set up a mentoring or a support group to guide and encourage women who wants to start business. It will be good for India’s growth and socially. Thank you for sharing Anas!

"For India to be a developed nation, the impact of women-led wealth creation is no longer a good to have but an ABSOLUTE necessity." - Couldn't agree more. Hopefully, your initiatives in this direction will propel more and more women towards entrepreneurship and wealth creation and will usher in steps towards bridging gender disparity.
