Technology has always been a leadership trend throughout recent years. However, with the rise of generative AI like ChatGPT, this trend has once again become front and center. For the first time since IBM’s Watson, technology is now truly poised to make a significant impact when it comes to jobs and careers (Watson fell short). In fact this is such a huge trends that I recently put together an entire course on how leaders can use ChatGPT to be more effective and impactful at work.
This trend is reshaping the landscape of jobs and the workforce in profound ways, presenting both opportunities and challenges for leaders aiming to navigate this new terrain effectively. The platforms today can do everything from generate code, design graphics, analyze data, write content, and virtually anything and everything in between. This has profound implications for things like customer service, strategic decision making, innovation, and business operations (including leadership).
This means that AI and technology are driving unprecedented efficiency and scalability in business operations. Automation of routine tasks frees up human resources for more complex and strategic activities, enhancing productivity and innovation. Leaders who understand and leverage these technologies can streamline processes, reduce costs, and maintain a competitive edge in their markets.
The question then becomes, what do humans do in an AI and technology driven world? The answer to that is to embrace technology as a way to make yourself and your company more human, to reduce distance between people instead of creating more of it. The one that technology cannot take away from humans is our ability to be…human!
What you should do:
Become a “technology teenager” which is a concept I talk about in my previous book, The Future Leader. This means don’t run from technology or assume it’s an “IT thing.” Embrace technology, tinker with it, and understand what the different tools are and how they will impact you and your career.’
Become a lifelong learner, don’t rely on educational institutions or on your organization to teach you everything you need to know to be successful. Take your professional and personal development into your own hands!
Focus on the humans skills at work such as strategic thinking, collaboration, communication, empathy, coaching, and the like.
Stay tuned for the seventh leadership trend, Political, Economic, and Geopolitical Issues that I will share with you next week!
