Tidy up.
Tidy Up
“Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.”
2 Corinthians 7:1 (NKJV)
Over the weekend, I took time to tidy up my space and take out empty containers out of my closet which had overstayed their welcome. That sense of tidiness brought me so much tranquility as I laid down to rest. More to that, I was energised to plan my week and set my priorities. From my experience, I can opine that the tidy state of my space was directly proportional to my internal state of mind which allowed me to direct my energy to meaningful activities such as taking a rest and setting intentions and priorities for the week.
It’s a beautiful day and a pleasant week indeed as I watch the sun rise in tremendous beauty and brightness. In my meditations, I was inspired to write to you about the need to tidy up. Life can sometimes become clogged up with so many things, tasks, responsibilities and obligations. We can easily get swamped in busyness that we miss out on the most important and beneficial things we should be focusing on. It is time to tidy up and make room for the new things God is about to do in your life.
Our inner closet, the heart, can be filled with spent and old items which no longer serve us any purpose. Yet, somehow, we cling to these things and refuse to let go of them. These are old habits, thoughts, beliefs, past events, past success, past failures, regrets, rejections and pains which become heavy weights in our lives. These heavy weights do not allow us to move forward to the next level of God’s will and plans for our lives.
In addition, the heavy weight could be a recurring sin or addiction which besets us each and every time. It becomes a barrier which seems impossible to overcome and we fall short at every encounter with it. In truth, we have been given the power to lift off these heavy weights from our lives so we can be free to become all that God created us to be.
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”
(Hebrews 12:1-2, NKJV)
Beloved, have the courage to tidy up and take out everything that no longer serves the purpose of God in your life. Take responsibility to renew your mind and prepare yourself for new things which God is doing in your life.
“Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonourable, he will be a vessel for honourable use, set apart as Holy useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work”
(2 Timothy 1:7, NKJV)
How can one tidy up? It begins with acceptance and willingness to clear out whatever that may be taking up useful space in your life right now. Identify and take decisive steps to eliminate them so that you can have space for newness. You cannot do it by your own willpower and strength. It will not happen instantly and you may find yourself missing your steps. That is why you need the empowerment which only comes from the Holy Spirit of God to help you along the journey. The Holy Spirit, a gift to us from our LORD and saviour Christ Jesus is within us to uphold and strengthen us in our walk of faith in life. The free gift of the Holy Spirit is available to anyone who is willing to accept the giver of all good things, Christ Jesus who died so that we may live fully on earth and eternally in God. Today, I urge you to accept Jesus into your life and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. If you missed your steps, it is never too late to course correct and dedicate your life afresh to live for God. Tidy up to level up!
