Thoughts For Success By: D.L. Owens
The employee review process is something that every supervisor or manager should put much thought into. I have seen where some in leadership discount the value that the review process can be in motivating employees to be better workers and overall team players. Unfortunately many use it as a vindictive tool to punish a worker for their personal positions, attitudes and work relationships. The review process should highlight the persons strengths and outline areas for improvement in a constructive way.
Because these reviews are often attached to raises or pay increases, giving a poor performer some amount as a good faith endeavor, coupled with recommendations for improved work performance to bring even greater pay increases, can be just the ticket to turn a marginal employee into an exceptional one!
Take a course or ask the HR office to help you learn how to do constructive reviews so you don't discourage workers but motivate them to a better place of productivity. Learning how to say the hard things in a positive way can produce a team of exceptional workers who get it done in excellence! Thoughts for success!
