TAT Mindset for Digitalization
I aspire to develop my digital mind set. I believe organizations focus more on deployment of tools but sometimes miss on developing the ‘inner’ – the digital mind set of people that will embrace the process of digitalization best. Today morning when I was concentrating on what could be a few crucial components on building the mindset digital, three pointers came. Let me call this the ‘TAT Mindset for Digitalization’.
I believe every organization as it attempts digitalization they need to also coach their teams on developing these three qualities and capacities:
1. Transparency
2. Alignment
3. Transformation
Transparency: This is not just being honest and sharing information or even having an open culture alone. There are many layers to an organization process and many layers to our 'inner' that is present behind what we do. Clarifying and making these layers transparent both in the outer process and inner is a key thing. Now if it is a large organization with a matrix set up it is all the more complex. Transparency does not necessarily mean make things simple, as handling increasing complexity in a simple manner is a sign of evolution. Transparency means, all interacting layers present are clarified and made visible. Thus one can ‘see’ through and see what’s working well and what is not; what is aligned and what is not.
Alignment: When the parts of different function’s processes and ‘inner’ of people and teams are getting transparent we need a clear reference point. This is the purpose, vision, strategy and culture. This is the ‘whole’ against which we start seeing the components. The team then observes and draws insights on which external processes and internal processes are in sync fully or partially and these are noted to undergo the process of transformation. These are part of individual and collective journeys made consciously.
Now this whole observation of presence or absence of alignment can be made easier and more accurate through digitalization tools. The goal of digitalization is not just to save cost or reduce manpower. The goal is actually more to increase alignment and transformation.
Transformation: The reason for digitalization is not just scaling up, which is more quantity of the same - selling more, moving into more geographies, acquiring new customers etc. Transformation is also about enhancing quality – of product, service, people, culture, ‘inner’, strengths, excellence etc. Quality here is seen and measured against the vision, purpose, strategy and core culture aspired. Transformation is a key agenda in digitalization. Mere deployment of tools of digitalization may make operations more efficient but this is only partial agenda fulfilled. Digitalization needs to facilitate the transformation of people, process, technology, product, service and organization to their NEXT POTENTIAL. Then it is a purpose fuller fulfilled.
TAT is I believe is to be a key mindset that supports or fulfills the effort for digitalization.
I am only learning this mindset and will be very happy to hear your views, opinions and insights. Well we could also collaborate informally to support organizations and leaders to develop their digital mindsets.
Looking forward to learn more in this space.
