Symbiotic Realism: A Transdisciplinary International Relations theory
My latest:
Symbiotic Realism: A Transdisciplinary International Relations theory
#SymbioticRealism, my TransDisciplinary analytical approach to International Relations, draws from:
1-Neuroscience-based, NonSpeculative-Views of Human Nature
2-Neurobiological/NeuroBehavioural interplay between Emotionality- Rationality,
3-Unifies insights from the Life Sciences with,
4-Ideas from #RealistIRTheory ,
5-Identifies SEVEN Current & Future Global Forces Influencing the International System on Earth and in Outer Space
6-Acknowledges Technologically-Mediated:
Instant Connectivity
&
Deepening Interdependence (Real/Authentic & Covertly Manipulative/Weaponized )
SYMBIOTIC REALISM, is predicated on the notion that the Contemporary Landscape of #IR is shaped,
by SEVEN, NOVEL & INTERDEPENDENT FORCES :
1-Disruptive Technologies exponential & game-changing advancements;
2-Changing role, independence, threats & capacities of #NonStateActors;
3-Emergence of Novel-Strategic Domains (e.g. GenerativeAI, Cyberspace & OuterSpace);
4-Rise of Collective-#CivilizationalFrontierRisks (e.g. AI, QuantumComputing, Pandemics, Synthetic Biology, SupplyChains, Environmental Security, TransNational Crime);
5-Weaponization-of-Economic-Interdependence;
6-Intensification/Unmasking of sub-/supra-national TransCultural-Historical-Schisms;
7-Neuroscientific Innovations about the Predispositions of Human Nature (which profoundly influences the previous six forces).
SYMBIOTIC REALISM, also explains that State Behavior in the Existing Structure of the Anarchic-SelfHelp-International System is INFLUENCED/GOVERNED by:
1-State EMOTIONALITY ( Personal, Political, Economic, Cultural, Historical, Ideological)
2-State AMORALITY
3-State EGOISM (Rational-NationalInterest)
&
MOTIVATED by what I have Called the #NeuroP5:
1-POWER (In all Seven State Capacities)
2-PROFIT (Endogenous Capacities/Innovations, Manipulative/Extractive/Exploitative/Weaponized Economic Gains from Others);
3-PLEASURE (Independence, Freedoms, Happy/Safe/Secure & Progressive/Prosperous/Sustainable-Living);
4-PRIDE (Prestige, Real-and-Biased/Skewed/Imaginary/Manufactured/Unfair/Binary/Condescending/Exclusionary/Arrogant, National/Patriotic/Cultural/Historical-Narratives);
5-PERMENANCY (Survival, Sovereignty, National Institutions, Resources, Cultural Frameworks, Strategic Culture, Historical Norms/Narratives & Primacy of GeoPolitical Realities & GeoStrategic Imperatives-Aspirations);
SYMBIOTIC REALISM, therefore:
1-Discards the #ZeroSum-logic that requires one state to lose, for another state to win and sees #MultiSum-outcomes as both possible & achievable;
2-Posits that GlobalPeace/GlobalSecurity & Strategic Stability consist of #FiveSecurityDimensions: Human, Environmental, National, TransNational(includes OuterSpace) & TransCultural;
3-Employs pragmatic, Multi-Sum, Symbiotic, WinWin & NonConflictual-Competition with #AbsoluteGains, rather than Relative Gains;
4-Assumes that #Competition is the foundation of the international system NOT #Cooperation;
But does not abandon the possibility of Temporary Cooperation through Alliance(s)/Balancing, inspired by Conflict or Potential Conflict & suggests that in all situations, this is likely to be "Need-Based" & thus Unreliable / Unsustainable;
5-Advances the view that National Interests can/must be reconciled with TransNational & TransPlanetary interests, if they are to be achieved in sustainable, cost-effective and peaceful ways;
6-Concludes that as a result of the above assumptions, States are (more likely) to accept, Differential-Strategic Capacities of other states
(which may include: Political Power, Economic Power, Military/Strategic Power, Prosperity, Efficacious Governance, Health, Education, Technological Innovation),
as Reconcilable, Fluid & Non-Threatening.
