Not sure how to start filling your program? Here's one idea!

Most of us coaches love coaching… and don’t love the business aspect of things!

At Group Coaching HQ, we always say that selling our services is a really important part of the first hurdle we need to overcome: Our own mindset!

Filling a group coaching program effectively requires both strategic and interpersonal approaches to attract participants who will add value to the group and build a strong community. In this series of emails, we share four ideas to enhance your group coaching program's outreach and engagement.

Conduct a survey

The goal of your survey is twofold:

1. Asking meaningful questions (not too many!) will get your ideal clients do start digging into themselves!

2. Understanding your ideal clients helps you tailor your program effectively.

We encourage you to be extremely thoughtful about the questions you ask. Make sure that there aren’t too many open-ended questions, and make sure that they give you the information you need: Potential participants' needs and expectations.

Imagine building a group coaching program for people in transition. Asking what a metaphor could be to describe how they feel in their transition will get them to understand themselves better and will give you a sense of what their needs are. It will also give you language you can use later on in your content and marketing. E.g. In this program we’ll dive deeper into what it feels like to be lost at sea without clear direction. You’re now able to talk to your potential clients using their own language! What a win!

We’ll let you think of other questions.

Once it’s ready, you can share this survey with everyone you know and ask them to forward it to someone they know who is going through a transition by sharing a little more color. For example, you might say: “I’m doing some research for a new project and would love to learn from anyone going through a big life transition. This could be getting married, moving to a new city, having a child, starting a new job… I’m trying to learn what it feels like and the type of support people would most need in those moments.”

Remember - and this is VERY important - you are not trying to sell your program. You are simply looking to understand your clients better.

At the end of your survey, include a field with a little more information about what you are building. E.g. “I am currently building a group program for people going through life transitions. Would you be interested in learning more about it? If so, please add your email address and I will share more when the program is ready.” Make sure that is an optional field so you only get email addresses from people who are truly interested.

We also recommend you add a field asking if people would be willing to be interviewed. We’ll talk about interviews in the next post in this series!
