Shopify Winter 25 Editions
Top 7 Updates from Shopify Winter Editions ’25
Shopify has taken a different approach with its Winter 2025 Edition. Instead of focusing on flashy new features, this edition is all about refinement—smoothing rough edges, improving performance, and ensuring everything works seamlessly together.
We’ve all experienced moments of frustration—trying to stitch APIs together, grappling with features that don’t quite sync, or spending more time troubleshooting than actually running our businesses. Shopify listened. Over the past six months, they’ve focused on dialing in the tools you already depend on, so they work better, faster, and in more places.
This beautifully boring edition is Shopify’s way of making sure your commerce engine runs smoother than ever.
Here are my top picks from the Winter Edition and why I think they’re worth exploring:
1. Semantic Search in French
Shopify’s semantic search is now available in French! It allows searches to understand natural language, which means customers can get relevant results even if their query is more conversational.
Example: A customer searching for “cadeau pour un ado qui aime la technologie” could see suggestions for gadgets, smart accessories, or gaming products—even if these exact keywords aren’t in the product descriptions.
2. Custom Metafields in POS
Finally, a way to personalize the in-store customer experience! With custom metafields, you can now collect and store unique customer details, like their birthdate or preferred language, directly in your POS system. It’s an easy way to enhance customer service and tailor follow-ups.
3. RFM Analytics
Even if you’re already using external tools for advanced insights, the new RFM (Recency, Frequency, Monetary) analytics is a helpful way to visualize customer segmentation directly in Shopify. It’s a great starting point for brands looking to understand purchasing behaviors better.
Example: You can quickly identify your “Loyal customers” (frequent buyers with high spending) and create targeted campaigns like early access to sales or exclusive discounts just for them.
4. Customer Account Extensions
This update opens up so many possibilities! You can now customize customer accounts to add features like loyalty programs, subscriptions, and more, making the post-purchase experience more engaging and valuable.
Example: Imagine allowing customers to see their loyalty points balance, redeem rewards, or easily manage subscriptions directly from their account dashboard. All of this can now be integrated seamlessly within Shopify. Explore all the options here.
5. Shopify POS in France
While you could technically use Shopify POS in France before, the big news here is the availability of Shopify Payments and hardware for French merchants. This makes it much easier to unify online and in-store operations with Shopify’s ecosystem.
6. Faster Cart and Checkout
Shopify has significantly improved cart and checkout loading speeds. With up to 50% faster cart requests and accelerated checkout buttons (like Shop Pay and Apple Pay) loading quicker, this update directly tackles cart abandonment and improves the overall shopping experience. More details here.
7. Metaobject Triggers in Flow
Shopify’s automation game is stronger than ever. Metaobject triggers in Shopify Flow now allow you to automate workflows whenever a new metaobject entry is created.
Example: If a customer submits a custom form with their preferences or feedback, you can automate a personalized email response thanking them or offering a related discount. Learn more about use cases here.
Each of these updates makes Shopify even more powerful and efficient. If you’re thinking of implementing any of these features or just want to discuss how they might fit your business, feel free to reach out!
