Well if it’s not, it should be…
Since one of the recent algo updates… Yeah, another one!
I’m sure you have noticed Reddit and Quora forums in search results!
With Google ranking now forums, I thought… How about lawyer directory forums?
Have they gained extreme visibility jumps such as Reddit and Quora as well?
Well, my gut feeling was right!
I analyzed one of the most popular (back in the day) law firm directory/forums Avvo.com
The initial Google’s Helpful Content update was rolled out mid-2022.
Since then we’ve seen several iterations.
Here’s what I asked myself…
Has avvo.com rankings improved in the last 12-months?
Well, yeah it did… Here’s the breakdown!
March 2023
756K indexed keywords
359K estimated organic traffic
$743K estimated traffic value
March 2024
1.2M indexed keywords (58% Increase YoY)
983K estimated organic traffic (172% Increase YoY)
$2.3M estimated traffic value (209% Increase YoY)
Those are some staggering numbers!
Let’s peel some more layers… Where did this growth come from?
Were those forum pages?
To uncover this…
I looked at the most visited pages with the biggest jumps in the last 12 months.
To no surprise for me…
Out of top-10, eight alone are pages with URL path that include “legal-answers”.
These are Avvo.com forum pages!
Furthermore, I wanted to see how many forum pages have started to rank?
To do that, I narrowed down a list of ranking paths with “legal-answers” in them.
This is where this case study gets really good!
Avvo’s forum pages have 5x’d it’s estimated organic traffic!
From 100K visitors a year ago… to 580K!
Their overall traffic grew 359k to 983k!
We can see that 400k of that came from the forum pages.
Alright…
So what can we do with this?
That depends on your practice area and willingness to roll your sleeves up!
What I’d like to test is…
Finding relevant threads and engaging in those on high-volumes of pages!
Like this page… Now, the person asked a question in September, 2023.
However, the thread itself ranks for the highly valuable term “philadelphia car accident lawyer”
Then, the attorneys in the thread, answering the question are getting pretty much free visibility!
