Saturday Morning Coffee (#3)

Saturday Morning Coffee (#3)

I am so excited to share "Saturday Morning Coffee." In this weekly post, I will share, learn, explain, dream, and have fun. I will probably stop next week ;-)

Today I would like to share how we created MVP.

--

If you read my last post, you probably know that we started Cheers without raising funds (bootstrap). We gather followers via several zoom sessions during the first Covid-19 lockdown. Now it was the time to jump into the water and create our first product, our MVP (Minimum Viable Product and refers to the most basic version of the product that delivers its main and core value to the consumer).

PERSONALIZED WINE BOXES, YAY!

It seems that in the past ten years, I've been working on personalization in different markets. At Getevents, We built an events search engine that can be personalized for travel consumers. At Glassify, I created the ability to match beers to customers while sitting at a local bar/restaurant (using a smart glass).

Yair, on the other hand, has more than 25 years of matching wine. Also, Yair has a phenomenal taste memory. It is something that people need to see in order to believe it. He can detect a wine just by tasting it. Not just the wine, but the location, the vineyard, and the winemaker. Crazy, right?

TOGETHER WE HAVE 35 YEARS OF PERSONALIZATION KNOWLEDGE.

We know that we must do it right. But without any money, we needed to think quickly on how to execute our MVP. We decided to spread the word about Cheers.

GET INSPIRATION FROM SUCCESSFUL PRODUCTS!

We wanted to get information from people about their wine flavor. We thought about Netflix or even Spotify as an inspiration (personalization services). Netflix onboarding new consumers by asking them to select movies and series they loved. But asking those questions about wine is complex as it is not movies or songs that you can watch and hear forever (wine has a limit). Yair thought about straightforward questions that can help us understand their taste. For example: asking a person about their Coffey habits or what kind of ice pop they love. It took him a few days, and boom! We had a questionnaire (a very long one) that can give us an idea about a person's taste. It is much more complexed than what I wrote here. But, for this post, it should be simple for everybody to understand.

GOOGLE FORMS, FAST AND EASY TO IMPLEMENT.

The next step was to find a tool to help us gather consumer information. Yes, we used google forms.

We built it in two days and sent it to several friends. In few days, it became viral, and we got lots of people signing up. We believe in giving our clients the best service. So, we added a phone call to talk and fill our consumers personally ("white gloves onboarding."). Yair and Itay worked very hard to answer emails and to call each potential customer. The conversion was close to 100% success.

IT WAS WORKING, BUT SCALING WAS A PROBLEM?

We needed to think about automation.

Next week I will explain how we took our MVP to the next level.

As always, remember that if you don't like or share, an angel is losing his wings.
