Samsung Tech Day 2018 – Top 4 Highlights

Samsung Tech Day 2018 – Top 4 Highlights

This October we hosted our 2nd annual Samsung Tech Day event, and it all took place here at the Samsung@First Campus in San Jose.

Our vision for the Samsung Tech Day is to create an opportunity to bring the industry together, where we can discuss new products and technologies in a collaborative environment. For me, being a part of this event offered the experience of being at the cutting edge of technology that is truly transforming the world around us. To recap the event, below are my top four highlights.

Highlight #1: We launched a series of products and announcements driving innovation in memory and semiconductor technology. Below is a quick summary, but you can find full details in our press release here.

·       SmartSSD, a field programmable gate array (FPGA) SSD, that will offer accelerated data processing and the ability to bypass server CPU limits.

·       QLC-SSD for enterprise and datacenters that offers 33-percent more storage per cell than TLC-SSD, consolidating storage footprints and improving total cost of ownership (TCO).

·       256-gigabyte (GB) 3DS (3-dimensional stacking) RDIMM (registered dual in-line memory module), based on 10nm-class 16-gigabit (Gb) DDR4 DRAM that will double current maximum capacity to deliver higher performance and lower power consumption.

·       7nm EUV process node from Samsung’s Foundry Business, providing significant strides forward in power, performance and area.

Highlight #2: One of our favorite aspects of Tech Day is the chance to bring our partners and customers together to hear and learn from their direct experiences and insights. This year we hosted a panel featuring Bill Philbin of HPE, Girish Balbani of Microsoft Azure, Lee Caswell of VMWare, and Manish Muthal of Xilinx. I was lucky enough to have a chance to moderate the panel, and continue to feel inspired by conversations such as this one involving passionate members of Samsung’s partner/customer ecosystem community.

Highlight #3: We had the pleasure of being joined by Daniel Newman, Principal Analyst and Founding Partner at Futurum Research. Daniel outlined his views on Digital Transformation, encouraging attendees to ask questions about the future of technology and the key drivers moving us forward. My favorite topic was the connection, or more accurately the journey, from big data to analytics to machine learning to AI. At Samsung, innovation is part of our DNA, and the future of AI is an exciting discussion and innovation to be a part of.

Highlight #4: Rounding out my list was the opportunity I personally had to speak with Steve Wozniak onstage in a fireside chat. It was great to hear Woz’s candid views about the current state of technology and being a strong believer in every company needing a “Chief Disruption Officer” who reports to the Board of Directors.

Thanks again to everyone who participated, and looking forward to seeing you all again soon!
