Running Responsibly
At Brooks, we believe climate change demands urgent and universal action. Last year, the U.N. released a new report warning that we are nearing a ‘code red for humanity.’ We want to recognize the urgency to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C and our responsibility to take further steps down our People and Planet Path as we continue to grow our business. Brooks takes a science-backed approach that addresses climate change and aligns efforts across our business to reduce carbon emissions.
With the beginning of a new year, we are proud to announce our near and long-term science-based emission targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), a global body enabling businesses to set ambitious emissions reductions targets in line with the latest climate science. The SBTi has also verified Brooks’ net-zero science-based target by 2040.
Our near and long-term science-based emissions reduction and net-zero targets are as follows:
1) Reduce absolute Scope 1 & 2 greenhouse gas emissions 50% by 2030 and 90% by 2040 (from a 2021 baseline)
2) Reduce Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions 52% per unit of production by 2030 and 97% per unit of production by 2040 (from a 2021 baseline)
3) Reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2040.
Brooks’ net-zero target is currently the most ambitious designation available through the SBTi process, and we look forward to furthering our commitment to ensure that everyone who runs has a place to do it.
We’re committed to reducing carbon emissions in line with current climate science as we work towards our goal of becoming the number one choice for all who run. Check out our Running Responsibility page for more information on our goals.
