Road Report: Oracle Cloud World 2024

Oracle held its annual Cloud World event two weeks ago at the Venetian in Las Vegas. Oracle’s big announcements were the following:

Our TL;DR from the show is the following:

  • Oracle reports continuing strong business momentum within HCM. However, when we analyzed their YOY adoption numbers, we didn’t see a significant increase in adoption outside of the Oracle ME employee experience platform (which had a 33% increase in adoption and is now at 100% adoption). Oracle’s cloud application revenue was up 10%, though.

  • Oracle’s AI capabilities—including agentic AI—are some of the most extensive in the industry. This is because Oracle has such technical depth and is building on a single platform, enabling it to roll out features quickly. Oracle is deploying its Gen AI capabilities in more than a hundred use cases, including those that specifically target performance management, skills, and analytics.

  • Oracle is focusing on two things that really matter: customers and the business impact of AI. Starting last year, we began to hear Oracle talk about enabling customer satisfaction, and this was a major theme this year. As part of that, the team was heavily focused on enabling customers to use Gen AI to achieve specific business outcomes rather than just be wowed by the tech.

[Note: We are trying a new format for this Road Report, where we share the press releases upfront, so you all know Oracle’s key messages for the event. The rest of the blog will be our take on the event.]
