Rays of Sunshine - to make you smile

Rays of Sunshine - to make you smile

Prior to COVID-19, if I had a bad or challenging day I'd go to bed and tell myself tomorrow is a new day, with sleep it will all be better in the morning.

Then COVID-19 hit around the world and I could see things as they became worse and then as it spread across Australia, with tighter restrictions, job loss, uncertainty and fear for our health and that of our parents, grandparents and friends.

Going to bed, I was starting to despair thinking when I wake up tomorrow things will be worse, and each day became harder and harder, for me, my team, my friends and family. That's why I created Rays of Sunshine (a weekly newsletter full of good news, info, lighthearted videos/photos & job vacancies to help brighten the day). I wanted to have something positive, I wanted to smile and laugh again, and help others through the gloom too.

Despite all the awfulness happening around us or to us, Australia has never moved so quickly or united. So many innovative people and others that want to help by focusing on solving the real problems that matter with government and industry supporting.

Things that people have been in the 'too hard' basket to implement for years are happening in days. Scale up of manufacturing new products in Australia, paid Tele-health for medical services, online education, free childcare, increased job seeker payments, widespread work from home and video conferencing replacing the travel for business. I'm also proud of how caring so many of the community have been in looking after their neighbours and their local businesses and how much more appreciative and protective we've become of our older generations.

Going forward - life has changed. We won't be the same. This crisis has caused us to rethink and accept new business models, with those nimble to change and IT savvy thriving and growing.

Diamonds are made under pressure - Where we end up is up to us. We can buckle or we can look at this as an opportunity to reinvent ourselves and our organisations, or have a Kodak moment stubbornly holding onto the past and become irrelevant.

While housebound, no matter our age we can access a huge range of free and cost-effective resources to re-skill or up-skill in almost every area. There's never been a better time.

Please read and share our Rays of Sunshine Newsletters to brighten others day.
