Proximity is Power!

Proximity is Power!

"Proximity is Power" is a saying I often come across, suggesting that the company we keep plays a crucial role in our growth.

However, this statement assumes that those around us are smarter, better connected, or both. If this isn't the case, proximity might just lead us to conform to the norm or even become toxic.

I recently read an intriguing book titled "Wanting: The Power of Mimetic Desire in Everyday Life" by Luke Burgis. https://amzn.to/3YVReoR

It delves into the impact of a force that influences our desires and relationships, questioning the idea that proximity automatically equates to power.

He likens mimetic desire to an invisible force such as gravity, explaining that we often develop desires by observing and imitating those around us, which can lead to competition and even conflict if we're unaware of this influence.

Burgis argues that real power stems from our ability to resist mimetic desire and carve our own unique path.

I believe that proximity is power, but it's essential to be mindful of the company we keep, as it can significantly impact our future selves and shape whom we become.

Unlock your full potential and ensure that the power of proximity works in your favor.
