Celebrating Pride Month: Embracing Inclusion and Spreading Pride Vibes!
As pride month comes to an end, we want to share what we’ve done throughout the month to celebrate the LGBTQI+ community.
At Suvera, we believe in fostering diversity, inclusivity. That's why we made a point to create an inclusive space for our amazing team members during pride month. Let's dive into some activities we organised to raise awareness and educate our Suverians about the issues affecting the LGBTQI+ community.
Pride Facts: Kicking off the month by sharing the knowledge
We believe that education is key! So throughout the month we’ve been sharing information about the LGBTQI+ community and history.
From learning about the milestones achieved by the community, what the colours in the pride flag stand for, understanding the ongoing challenges they face, our pride facts kept pride month at the forefront.
Dee Jas: An Inspiring Talk on Being an LGBTQ+ Ally
We had the privilege of hosting an incredible speaker, Dee Jas, who came to speak to our team about allyship. Dee Jas is the fabulous founder of Colourfull, a consultancy that promotes LGBTQI+ inclusivity.
Dee shared their insights on being an ally and guided us on how to foster empathy, understand the struggles faced by LGBTQI+ individuals, why pronouns matter alongside sharing some insight into intersectionality and the different intersections people live and why these are important.
It was an eye-opening and empowering experience that left us feeling ready to act and create the most inclusive work environment we can.
Pride Book Club: Let's Get Reading.
Who doesn't love a good book club?
We decided to make it extra special by bringing together our Suverians for a Pride-themed book club. Our chosen book was none other than "Shuggie Bain" by Douglas Stuart, which won the prestigious Booker Prize.
While the novel doesn't directly focus on LGBTQI+ themes, it takes us on a captivating journey through the life of a young boy who identifies as a member of the LGBTQI+ community in 1980s Glasgow, navigating a world filled with challenges and adversity. The book club discussions were thought-provoking, encouraging us to delve into diverse life experiences, identity, and resilience.
Things to look out for
During pride month, we sat down with Dr Ronx, a trans non-binary emergency doctor to talk about their journey, challenges faced by LGBTQI+ medical professionals, and the measures needed to create a more supportive environment for both patients and staff.
Keep an eye out in the coming weeks for our interview with them.
Suvera's pride month activities show our commitment to inclusivity, education, and support for the LGBTQI+ community and we hope these efforts will have a lasting impact as we continue to champion equality and celebrate individual identities in the workplace and for our patients.
