Philly, as We know it
Since I was 11, I’ve had this thing about leaving Philly. It’s not due to a lack of love for the city, but more-so a lack of vision...on my part. Like many creatives, I’ve never viewed Philly as a place that’s abundant with opportunity in media. The irony that a place with such a rich history of art, music, creativity and idealism has been viewed as a retirement home for those same subjects is truly American in its paradoxical nature. But all run-on sentences aside, this truth stings because growing up here showed me how great this city really is.
Before I go any further let me be clear, I was born at Penn hospital to an upper-lower class family. We started off in Southwest Philly on Cemetery lane and because of circumstances, lived in several parts of the city including Olney, 63rd street and Kensington before settling in South Philly. So I’m not talking as someone who only knows downtown or the Main Line, I’m aware that this shit can get rough. Personally I think that dichotomy makes the magic because there’s no place on Earth that balances idealism and realism so well.
So instead of writing out the plethora of reasons why this Yin and Yang relationships makes Philly, Philly, we put it on film. Through out the month of December we’ll be dropping snippets, trailers, BTS pics and more content around STN’s second documentary ‘Philly, as We know it’ leading up to the release on December 1st. Stay Tuned
Knowing you I’m anticipating a great visual and moving experience
