Petroleum Pump Prices - 2022
The monthly Petroleum Pump prices announcements by the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) since its introduction in January 2022, has been a source of continuous debates throughout the country.
The fluctuating prices of petroleum products such as Petrol and Low Sulphur Diesel (which are the widely used in Zambia) have for the last 12 months seen people from all walks of life making adjustments regarding their movements using either public or private transport.
Petroleum price revisions were also coupled by continuously revisions of the Bus Fares for the travelling population for both local and inter-city routes, with RTSA and stakeholders in the transport sector having to make adjustments in fares whenever there was a change in Pump Prices.
ERB attributes the changes in the petroleum pump prices to two main factors; the exchange rate (the Kwacha against the US Dollar) and the prices on the oil international market.
The prices of Petrol and Diesel opened 2022 on K21.16/litre and K20.18/litre respectively and closing the year 2022, prices were K25.89/litre for Petrol and K27.38/litre for Diesel.
The lowest prices were recorded in February 2022 when the pump prices were at K19.84/litre and K18.93/litre for Petrol and Low Sulphur Diesel respectively and the highest pump prices for the two commodities was in July 2022 when they were at K26.75/litre (Petrol) and K28.01/litre (Diesel).
